Naumburg Master
( fl 13th century). Sculptor, active in Germany. Works attributed to his apprenticeship are in France (cathedrals of Reims, Noyon, Metz, Amiens and Strasbourg), but his personal contribution to sculptures at Mainz Cathedral (perhaps completed by 1239), Naumburg Cathedral (c. 125060) and Meissen Cathedral (c. 126880) is clear. His only surviving works from Mainz are the reliefs of the Last Judgement and the Bandaged Head (both Mainz, Bischöf. Dom- & Diözmus.; see MAINZ, fig. 2) and St Martin and the Beggar (Bassenheim, St Martin), known as the Bassenheim Rider. Seven over life-size statues in the choir and vestibule of the cathedral are attributed to him at Meissen.
