( fl Salzburg, c. 1520). Austrian painter. He is named after a winged altarpiece (Munich, Bayer. Nmus.) that supposedly came from the Salinenkapelle at Reichenhall; according to the inscription on the lower frame of the inside faces of the wings, it was donated by Leinhart Kuefpeck and his wife, Margret, in 1521. When closed, it shows SS Dorothy, Sebastian, Florian and Margaret, when open SS Leonard, Sebastian, Florian and Bartholomew; a predella shows SS Peter and Paul Holding St Veronica’s Handkerchief, with an Angel with the Instruments of the Passion beside each; the donor and his wife kneel beside St Leonard and St Bartholomew respectively. The clothes and distinguished bearing of the saints suggest the influence of the Italian-inspired Renaissance painting of Augsburg, as does the whole altar construction with its ornamented framework.
