Master of Schöppingen
( fl Westphalia, 144070). German painter. He is named after a Passion altarpiece in the parish church at Schöppingen. The only work associated with him that can be provisionally dated is a St Nicholas panel with four Church Fathers (1443; Münster, Westfäl. Landesmus.; ex-Gutes Althaus, Nordwalde). It is an excellent example of his style: richly robed figures with small doll-like heads stand on grassy ground, brightly coloured but painted with restraint.
