ROSANNA’S SCULPTUREclick here to see Rosanna's sculpture gallery
Rosanna begins each piece with a malleable medium, usually clay or wax. She works with the piece until she is satisfied and feels she has reached the achievement of her inspiration.
From this initial piece, a mold is made to enable casting the work in harder, more durable wax. Rosanna then works with each piece, adding the exquisite detail that is the hallmark of her sculpture. When she is satisfied, at last, she adds her signature to each individual piece and delivers it to the foundry, where it will be cast in bronze.
At the foundry, the finished wax is used as the form for another mold that is built up around the wax figure.
When the bronze is poured, the wax is burned away (hence it is called the lost wax method) and what remains is the bronze piece in rough form ready for finishing. This requires metal work to remove the imperfections that arise as part of the casting process. Rosanna visits the foundry and marks up the piece and
she finishes the sculpture to her satisfaction. If a patina is to be applied, Rosanna works with the patina department of the foundry to achieve the desired look. The piece is then mounted to the base and is ready to bring many lifetimes of inspiration and pleasure to its owner. To view the first in a series of figures in yoga poses, please click here |
