Profile:
The son of a former wrestler, Víctor Manuel Mar debuted under a mask in 1977, calling himself Kuroneko. He made his first appearance for New Japan in April, 1981, wrestling the original Tiger Mask. He changed his name to Black Cat (which Kuroneko meant, but in Japanese) and joined Mexico's AAA in February, 1994, now wearing a mask. As a major rudo, he helped form the Los Gringos Loco group with Love Machine (Art Barr) and Eddie Guerrero. He lost his mask to Máscara Sagrada in May, 1995, in an acclaimed match, perhaps his greatest ever. He returned to New Japan without the mask in September, 1995, and soon it became his permanent home. He made some appearances for WCW in January, 1998, but suffered a serious knee injury that sidelined him for a while. He became a full-time referee for New Japan starting in January, 2003, at the Tokyo Dome. After suffering another injury in early 2001, he devoted himself to becoming a New Japan referee and was also part of New Japan's youth system, helping raise the young lions. At 3:00am on January 28th, 2006, Black Cat suddenly passed away from an acute cardiac insufficiency.
