  Saving and Using Web Pages
You may want to save some of the information you find on the web. You can always print a copy while you have that page in your browser window, but you can also save copies of web pages and pictures, or images, as files on your computer to open, send, or print later.

You Try It: Save a Copy of a Web Page

  1. Go to the page you want to save.

  2. From the Communicator menu bar, select File, Save As. The Save As dialog box will appear.

  3. (Optional) Type a new filename in the Filename text box.

  4. Select the location on your desktop or hard drive where you want to save the page.

  5. Select the format, Plain Text or HTML, in which you want to save the page. (See the FYI on this page.)

  6. Click Save to close the Save As dialog box and save a local copy of the page.
You Try It: Save an Image From a Web Page
  1. Position the mouse pointer over the image you want to save, and right-click on the image. (Macintosh: Hold down the mouse button.)

  2. From the pop-up menu that appears, choose Save Image As. The Save As dialog box will appear.

  3. (Optional) Type a new filename in the Filename text box.

  4. Choose the location on your desktop or hard drive where you want to save the page.

  5. Click Save to close the Save As dialog box and save a local copy of the image.
You Try It: Open a Page or Image You've Saved
  1. From the Communicator menu bar, select File, Open Page (Macintosh: File, Open, Page in Navigator). The Open Page dialog box will appear.

  2. Click Choose File. The Open dialog box will appear (Mac users can skip this step).

  3. Locate the file you want to open.

  4. Click Open to close the Open dialog box and load the page or image into Navigator.
  FYI

  • FYI: If you save a page in HTML (source) you will keep the formatting of the original web page and you will be able to view it in the Navigator browser. If you save a file in Plain Text, you will get unformatted text without the HTML code. Choose Plain Text if you want to print just the text or if you want to open the file in a word processing program.

  • FYI: You can print a page that's on the web or on your hard drive - you don't need to save a page before you print it. No matter where the file is, just click the Print button on the Navigation toolbar or select File, Print from the Navigator menu bar.
