Comments: Forget firing Doc. FIRE DANNY AINGE. How much more can he mess up this team.? He added a bunch of heartless losers that only care about themselves and his "star" players aren't any better. Wally takes himself out of games. Pierce only cares about spinning and driving between 5 guys from the other team. Rondo is a ball hog and so is Gerald Green. Perkins is useless, Al shows up only half the time. Delonte is brain dead on the court. Tony Allan has his head in other places.
Bring back Antoine. His shot selection wasn't always great but at least he cared about winning. He knew what Celtics Pride was all about. Not a single person currently on this team can say that including Paul Pierce.

Comments: This coach has yet to win one playoff series in his entire coaching career (including the team he coached before us). His team is stacked with young unproven players. There is a lack of veteran leadership to accompany the only legitimate all-star on the roster. His team plays with no heart. They cannot execute in the fourth quarter. They do not run the floor well. They play no defense. They rely on the three point field goal at the most inappropriate times. The bench play is increidibly inconsistent. There is no roster stability. We are losing games we should undoubtedly be winning.

It's not like he's made all the coaching moves and the talent alone has lost this many games...Right now, this guy is "Pitino", and we need our "O'Brien": the right guy that can turn it around, and get the best out of what he has... I'm not sure who that guy could be (Westphal? Adelman?), but it surely doesn't look like it's Doc Rivers.

Comments: Doc Rivers needs to go. I like him as a person but he is not fit to coach this team. Maybe we can keep him the whole season and lose enough games to get Greg Oden? Is that the thinking? And Ainge.... I can't beleive you traded Antoine. You disesembled a playoff contender in the East with two franchise players. Comment: I have a feeling Doc will be fired over this, but...I think the person who should be going is Danny Ainge. Doc is doing the best he can with what he's got. Danny really decimated the team with his decisions over the last two years to bring in so much young talent that the few remaining veterans on the team can't bring the level of play up to where it needs to be. But, I think Doc will take the fall and whoever the next coach they bring in will take the fall when he fails to make this a championship team, when it is doomed from the start! Put a better decision maker in at the top and they will make better decisions about putting together a winning team that's not JUST young talent.
Cheers, Tai

Comments: I can't even imagine why there is a question. In Parcell's words you are what you are, so lets look at performance and results since Rivers has been the coach. Want a comparison? Look at Phoenix since their new coach arrived. Look at their performance even when their star went down for the season. Look at the Lakers. Do they have better talent or do they have better coaching? Want another angle? Look at players that didn't play but when given a chance--due to injuries--became starters, like Gomes. Look at Powe who's delivered fire everytine he's been on the court but doesn't get to play. Look at Jefferson--he went from untouchable rookie hall of famer--to a second rotation man. So, if the team doesn't win and the players don't develop, what does the future look like? Maybe Rivers was a good choice but it didn't work out. Move on. Find a better fit. Jas

Comments: Rivers has been a useful lightning rod until now, taking the heat and drawing attention away from the fact that the Celts consist of Paul Pierce, a handful of marginal vets, and kids who were low first round and second round draft picks. But while it’s defensible (barely) to lose six of your first seven games to teams with a combined .661 winning percentage, it’s just a disgrace to be spanked by the Bobcats and then run off your home court by the Knicks – teams that are a combined 7-17. The rubes were crammed in the tent looking to buy the religion last night. They left avowed basketball atheists before the end of the third quarter. You think Wyc, Steve, and the rest of their buddies aren’t getting sick of seeing their $360M team blow yet another opportunity to move up in the Boston sports hierarchy, particularly with the Red Sox and Bruins playing poorly?
How much would a new coach help? The Globe’s Peter May says not much. Then again, who’d have predicted Jim O’Brien would take a team of perennial losers and bring them to the conference finals in a little over a year? Was that team more talented and capable than this one? Of course not. They were simply committed to a style of play and they executed consistently. That’s what good coaches get players to do.
The enthusiasm and anticipation that accompanied the new season is rapidly waning. It’s been 20 years since the last championship and four since Danny blew up a playoff team. Maybe ire directed at Rivers is misplaced, but it’s a fact of life now and, more to the point, a fact of business. The team stinks and fans are turning away. Fair or not, the owners may soon have to heed the furious shouts of their paying customers and “fire doc.”

Comments: I am not one to come to quick decisions, and this case is no different. I have watched this team for years. And while I understand the "rebuilding" process, I feel there should be clear evidence of progress with our young players.
I can say with certainty that whatever Doc could have taught this group, he has. He has nothing left to offer and his limited skills as a hard nosed, in-your-face, X/O's coach will cease any forward developement of this team.
I feel he is a great guy. I feel the players respect him and genuinely like him, but he seems to have reached his peak as head coach. I respectfully request Doc Rivers be terminated from his contract and a new coach be hired for our beloved Celtics. A coach that will teach fundamentals and the drive to win. A coach that will start were Doc left off, and continue our climb up the ladder.
Until The Green show a noticable increase in knowledge of the game... I will refrain from renewing my season tickets, and instead focus my attention on watching these painful games on T.V. only.

It's time to fire doc -
Get a proven coach in here: Rick Adleman, Paul Silas, anyone that has playoff coaching experience. Bring back Jim O'Brien if you must.
Danny needs to do whatever it takes to make a move for Garnett. Kevin is going to want to move him before the end of the season either way.
Boston needs to pair Pierce with Garnett. If not, the ship continues to sink and we throw the season for Oden, only to watch history repeat itself as in the Duncan draft.
You can't depend on the lottery to build a team. We have the pieces to get talented players into Boston. It's time for Danny to make some moves, it's time for the owner's to spend some money and it's time to fire Doc.

Comments: The number one thing that makes DOC a bad coach is that he coaches mistakes. When a player makes an ingame mistake he pulls him aside and trys to correct it. Players don't learn like that, players learn in practice and training not to make mistakes. IF you see players continually get in foul trouble(perk/Jeff) or make bad dribbling decisions (Allen) it is because they are not be taught properly in practice. Great coaches are the ones that prepare their teams for anything that could happen, Bad coaches have one game plan and make in game attempts to coach. Doc i love you but please go away.

I watch all the games and I have no idea what is damn game plan is half the time. Also you never know who is playing as I think he justs "Wings" it from game to game. One game Rondo is in the next he's out, Leon is in, the next he is out!!!!!!! When is Dannny Boy going to wake up and kick some damn dead weight out the door and push these guys to help the Truth win some games. You can see that Paul is out there giving up some of his game to try and involved the rest of them and it just isn't working. This is where a knowledgable coach needs to come into play. I'm sorry, Doc is a nice guy, but he can not coach or manage a game.

The young guys have not improved and the rotations don't exist. There are no offensive or defensive schemes. The team is not prepared for games or game situations. |
Name: MetroG
Comments: At some point the coach of an underachieving team has to be held accountable for its repeated poor performances. Especially when the same mistakes are happening over and over again. And yes, I did say "underachieving" because I truly believe that this team should be much better than they are. I peruse other teams' rosters and I see their box scores, etc. I really believe the talent on this team is such that we should be fighting for a mid-level playoff spot. We have one of the 15 best players in the NBA in Paul Pierce. We have one of the NBA's most lethal scorers in Wally Szczerbiak. We have many young, able bodied players who should be playing tough defense and honing their skills. Yet we have seen little to no improvement from last season to this season. How can that possibly be the case? It has to be put on the coaches. Has to be. The defensive and offensive schemes/philosophies are gimmicky and unproven. Players are constantly in the wrong positions and are unable/unwilling to correct this. Either way, it comes down to poor coaching. Whether they can't or won't do it the way Rivers wants, it doesn't matter. He refuses to adapt or find another way. His strategic abilities are extremely limited and we see this fact exposed every single game.
Doc Rivers it is time for you to go. You gave an honest effort for at least half a season in your first year. We all know you want to go back to Florida and play golf. So bow out and do it. Stop waiting around for them to fire you (so you can keep getting paid). Bow out gracefully and show a little class.
Yeah right. Like that'll ever happen.

They badly need a fresh voice.

Comments: We deserve better. Doc seems like a good guy, even a smart basketball guy. But he is a terrible coach. We have too much talent on this team to be playing the way we are. Please, for the sake of all that is sacred in this world, let him go.

Comments: You're not going to win a championship with Doc. Matter of fact you will never win a playoff series with Doc.
Doc can't even draw up a single effective play at the end of games. I'd take anybody over Doc.

Comments: I think I'll remember Doc most for that time against Cleveland this year where he forgot that basketball games typically have 4 quarters, not 3.
|
Name: Mike Comments: Isn't it funny how Doc constantly stresses playing defense, but over and over again there is nothing but blown coverages? Doc has had two years to make what he is teaching stick. It is not working. Neither should he.

Comments: Although Doc has been a great sport I do agree he should be released from his contract. Not only would it benefit him because of his family situation but it would benefit the Boston Celtics all together. Doc just isn't the guy we need.

Name: Patrick Lynch
Comments: Doc must be fired for this team to improve. He doesn't know how to make good subsitutions or make up a good rotation. His in-game decisions are terrible, particularly in the 4th quarter. When late game offense goes away from what we do during the first 3 and turn into isolation time for Paul Pierce while everyone else watches, THAT'S BAD COACHING. Please fire Doc, we need a new system.

Comments: Doc, You've done well with what you had to work with but let someone else take this team to the level you cannot. I would like to see the energy back in Celtics basketball starting with Rajon Rondo getting some minutes.

Comments: This team has the talent, as evidenced in all the close games we have been in except one or two. Seems like with Doc, he makes all the wrong decisions and we end up losing those close games a majority of the time. Blowing that Nets game a week back was devastating and the team has shown that they have given up on Doc since then.

Name: Omar Longus
Comments: I have given him the benefit of the doubt in every situation. However, in his time here he has 1) not made an effective crunch time play set 2) not challenged the young guys to step their games up or rewarded them with minutes 3) struggled at maintaining the Celts fire 4) not challenged Paul Pierce to be a team player and move the ball quickly 5) not developed an offense that would help the players 6) made some terrible crunch time decision making (putting TA in when we need points, subbing out Delonte when we need a big shot, play Scals in the crunch, always letting Paul take the last shot regardlses of his being double or even triple teamed, etc...). Although I respect and admire Doc Rivers, the team will not succeed with him at the helm.

Comments: Better yet, the ailing Doc should resign. This will save face for him. However, it will not address the deeper problem -- the decision-making power of Danny Ainge. Doc remains because Ainge is standing by Ainge's choice. We don't frickin' care if Ainge "likes" him, or if Ainge still has the brazenness to promise that these "young" players will be better in the future.
It's time to replace these two shameless bozos with others who expect to WIN, and who know how to use or get the talent to do it.
|
Name: John LeBonte
Comments: Doc is nice, but nice doesn't win championships, great coaches do. Doc has neither won a champ as a player or a coach. Ainge has, and so has Heinsohn. I say Tom Heinsohn as head coach and Ainge as Asst. Look at Don Nelson. If he isn't too old, neither is Tom.

Comments: If he's trying to prove something by benching our best players, I don't know what that is? Gomes isn't a power forward, AL or Powe are. Rondo has outplayed Telfair in every game I've watched and I've watched every one since the summer league. Green...say no more.

Comments: I thought Doc was a good choice because he was able to make something out of nothing in Orlando. That said, it's time for the Celtics brain trust to go in a different direction. There is a competitive fire that is vacant from our guys in green. Every Celtics team that ever earned a banner had that fire, and it was a reflection of their coach (Red, Russel, Heinson, KC). Doc is not cut from the same cloth, and it's time he was hung out to dry.

Comments: I'm sorry Doc you are probably a great guy, but you and your staff just aren't getting anything done. Jim O'Brian got ran out of town, well at least the teams were competetive and did go to playoffs. For three years you've been trying to utilize players talents and come up with good rotations. We get worse all the time. Danny Ainge is to blame too for there is no plan. Losing to Memphis last night was pathetic, everyone crying about youth and undermaned well Memphis didn't have Gasol and had plenty of youth. Every team has youth but good coached teams have a plan and play as a team. The Celtics are a absolute mess right now and it is time for a change in GM and Coaching staff. One other thing that does bother me for a while now. I heard Doc still lives in Orlando and that just never made sense to me. A focused staff should be more dedicated than that. Maybe that explains why we suck at freethrows, gameplans, stupid injuries from lack of PT, and have a team that just isn't listening.

Comments: I have no doubt Doc is a great guy but he has lost this team. Absolutely lost it. There is no organization, no sign of fundamentals being taught, no offensive or defensive philosphy or identity. I mean, if you wanna be real about it, the whole organization needs a complete enema right now. Doc isn't by far the ONLY problem, but he is one of the prominent ones. I think its time to just start over again in order to stop the bleeding.

Comments: Doc is the most amazing coach i've ever seen. he can turn a possibly winnable game(like the one against the suns) into a tragedy with a single call. he only has one play (give pierce the ball thirty feet away from the basket and have him try to beat the other team). he waits until players start to get hot and then take them out. He can't teach defense. In crunch time he looks like keith van-horn caught in a double team with two seconds left in a playoff game 7. we'd be the best team in our division with a good coach, but we have doc. Doc rivers was a very good player. he's not a very good coach. every time we have a chance to win, doc makes us lose, and his play is terrible. the other teams know it now, and we will not win any more games with him as coach. other teams may lose, but we won't win. even if we get iverson, we're going to be a sub-par team. we need a new coach. DANNY!!!! LET US WIN! Lose doc before pierce demands a trade.
