Review

by Adam Cumiskey
21 June 2007

Ronan Keating's greatest hits: the gift that just keeps on giving. In fact it's more than giving - this is tantamount to rubbing it in. It's like a sixteen-part Irish Tourist Board advert that's so safe you half want the peace process to break down just to provide some danger.

The record company press office urges you to start 'celebrating an incredible 10 years of Ronan'. On the basis of this collection, it's more than incredible. '10 years!' it tells us, 'can it really be that long?' Grab the anti-depressants - it is that long.

The albino everyman of pop is the oldest 27 year-old in the world. This man's sold more than 17 million albums and chooses to work with Bryan Adams: a man that's got 'Yes, I'll do it' on his answer phone. You have to question his musical judgement.

When Ronan sings a slushy love song, he certainly makes you weep. Moving? He gives you a movement alright. The upbeat songs are even more depressing. On "I Love It When We Do", he wails 'running up and down the street, hugging everyone I meet...when I've got you in my arms, can't turn off those fire alarms'. They're panic alarms, Ronan. Take a hint.

Ronan's image of an everyday lad is not rock 'n' roll. At a party he'd be the one minding the car keys and having a quick tidy up to save doing it in the morning. He'd make your Gran feel young at a wedding, personally breast feeding his hundreds of children and still finding time to wander round with a clip board and collect for charity. The trouble is he's too nice for pop as well. Not many people can sing for a decade, have huge chart success and still be instantly forgettable. He doesn't have a personality to hate -he just doesn't have a personality.

So who's this album for? I'd say anyone who wants a trip to Ireland that has all the authenticity of a theme pub in an Arndale centre. It's impossible to listen to him gnashing his (new) teeth without seeing those endless videos of Mr. Keating wearing a donkey jacket, leading a horse through a council estate. But be warned, as the album progresses you begin to add your own characters to those clichéd Irish films. First the street kids are throwing bricks, then offal, then Molotov cocktails. This is a collection for people who don't like music (expect it to go to the top of the charts.)

Ronan, here's a plan for the next ten years: you say it best when you say nothing at all.

I think Ronan's lyrics can sometimes be a bit cheesy, but at least he has lyrics unlike some bands who spill a load of sounds and gestures, but not real words and crap bands who's video clips feature near naked girls rubbing up and down on men, just so they can try and sell the crap they have made. The only reason I can't listen to Ronan any more is because "When You Say Nothing At All" used to be my boyfriend's and my song and he turned out to be a p***k! So its my own personal selfish reasons really. Other than that, I think he seems like a sweetheart... Ps I agree with the comment someone made about men hating boy bands and male singers because they can't express emotions properly... Note to emotionless men. Woman prefer men who can tell them without gagging that they are in love with them, think they are beautiful, etc etc... Learn!!

I think Ronan Keating is FANTASTIC! He has achieved so much in such a small period of time. He is a better singer than most on the TV nowadays. Keep up the good work Ronan and ignore negative attitudes! Like to see them doing better!

Billy Torme, Oslo
Ronan Keating was a good one many years ago. So thank you for Will Young! He is a new Ronan and (I think) a better Ronan. Maybe Ronan could now be a big song writer instead. And maybe he would write for Will Young - this is my dream - classic partners just like Bjorn and Bennie, Bernie Torping and Elton John, and Godley and Cream! DO IT RONAN AND WILL!!

Please don't try to offend anyone's work here. For those who said that Ronan can't sing or his album(s) is damn rubbish work..oh please...do you think you can have a singing career for 10 years? Going to top of chart?Being popular like him?YOU CANT! So it don't make sense that you being rude here. Please go away and let those who love Ronan read this review. xxx Peace

Jo Oz
All I can say is RUDE RUDE RUDE Mr GoOutsky put ya manners back in :oP If ya mother taught ya any. Ronan is the greatest singer to his fans and that's all that matters, I totally agree with everything Jo says(not the same Jo but damn that is a good name) There is some really crappy singers around and they supposedly have talent, if that's talent give me Ronan anyday. Maybe you should actually listen to some of his other songs or see him live before you open ya rude traps. So what do you people like? You don't like Bryan Adams, lulu, the bee gees, cat stevens, leann rimes, leann womack, brian kennedy, kenny rogers, garth brooks, greg alexander????????? Millions of people buy his albums and go to his concerts every year so I don't really think your opinion counts for much. Rock on Ro!!!!!

desen london
ronan is the best he is lovely and he sings live all the time. this album is exclent and he is very good at singing with feeling.

Barry Gam, Cork
I dont think you are stupid for liking this music...just don't expect anyone to take your musical opinions seriously...somewhere along the line this product preys upon latent sentimentality, I'm sure you know this music is rubbish....we all like a bit of trash though..don't we...does any of the fans here watch big brother?

Abbey, Leicester
the review present is plausable and I think its good for all the doe eyed ronan deciples to read other peoples valid reviews and opinions, although I think we could all live without another post from Jo

Pickles the Clown, Royston
cack, worst most false, soulless singer ever. Soooooo bad it hurts to listen to. Please go away you boring fool. Your music stinks, always has, always will.

Sarah Ireland
i think this review is completely rubbish! Ok Ronan Keating may not be a legend yet but he has done pretty darn well so far! He'll still be going for 10 more years and 10 after that! As for the *jokes* about Bryan Adams i think you should look up some information about him and then think about what you wrote! Now he has been on the go for more than 25 years adn its safe to say that he is a legend! So Mr Cumiskey I advise you that next time you attempt to write a plausible review that you get your facts right before putting pen to paper! Ciao! xxx

Mike, Leeds Utd
Great review!

Danny, Glasgow
Spot on review, Ronan is a talentless chancer.. Mr dull or what! No personality whatsoever.

Hal Germany
Don't worry too much they seem to write rude reveiws about everyones album. It must be a requirement to get a job at the bbc. Wouldnt ya love to work there.

Grace
What kind of music do you people like? I'd like to know who you think the perfect singer is. Ronan does a damn good job and no one can take that away from him. He is also one of the best in concert. I've seen other singers who are supposed to be superstars and all they do is stand in one place and mumble. You will get far more than your money's worth at a Ronan Concert.

fathead
They run down Ro's album and then they have the hide to put a link for us to buy the album. Like I'd buy it from here. Ronan Rox Can't think of anything bad to say about him. I just hope he doesnt read this crap. Which I'm sure he doesnt cause he's out having a life.

Julie Brisbane
Jo I think you should be the reveiwer. That sums up the album brilliantly. As for Mr Cumiskey and all you jeleous guys go get yaselfs a life. Ronan was seriously ill it wasnt faked and I think it's great and genuine that he really loves his wife and kids. I'd hate to be married to any of you sad unromantic guys. Why is it that most guys hate boy bands and male singers who know how to express themselves???? A Little insecure I think. And he isn't just another marketing thing he really loves writing and singing music and doesnt do it just fot the money. His true fans believe in him and I think thats all that really matters. I think we need more people like Ronan, hes a nice generous down to earth guy who knows how to have a good time. Some of you said he should be able to handle the critisms but that doesnt make it right. Where has the love gone in this world. It's pretty bad when a good person is out of place. I'm glad he doesn't do drugs and is a good family bloke otherwise I probably wouldn't like him as much. But his voice and music is the best around at the moment. And maybe he is better than John Lennon and Bob Dylan. Did they get in the Guiness book of records? And what happened to John Lennon? Why is it that the people that are looked up to are all druggies? Live with one for a week and then tell me what legends they are!!!! RONAN ROCKS AND ALWAYS WILL

The End Of My Reveiw
Probably because I had got used to the Boyzone version and this one is very different. But after listening to it a few times I like it more than the boyzone version now. It's sort of more acoustic than the original and I just looove it. It also features Yusuf so it makes it that bit more special. Kind of takes you back to the boyzone days when Ro sang it as a 16 year old and sang it brilliantly. Don't know too many 16 year olds that could do that. Words is the next song, originally a Bee Gees song. I love the Bee Gees too and would have liked to hear Barry Gibb on this as a duet or in the background.(There's an idea Ro) Another Brilliant song, many people have covered Bee Gees songs but this is the best. Different to the Boyzone version too, bit acoustic sounding but just as good if not better. Next one is Baby Can I Hold You which sounds very acoustic. Not sure which version I like better the Boyzone one or this one but still a great song. I Hope You Dance is a great song origianlly sang by Leann Womack hadn't heard it though until Ronan sang it. I have heard this song sang live(on a video)and it sounded a bit better live then on the album but I still love it and it has helped Ro raise lots of money for the Marie Keating Foundation so that's gotta be good plus Father And Son Also helped raise money for Band Aid. Last but definetly not least is Somebody Else Ronans brand new song, not on any other album. This is one of the best songs on the album, written by Steve Mac. At first you think it's about two people and somebody else coming between them but you relise at the end that he is singing about about his children and how precious they are. This is a really brilliant ballard and belongs on the hits list. Also the artwork for the album is great. There's heaps of good pics inside of Ronan and people he has met over the years, places he's been etc. Plus he has written his thoughts and memories of each song. There's no lyrics in the booklet but most of us know them by now. So if you like any of Ronan's songs and want a really great album don't go past this album. I give it 10/10 also checkout Turn It On, it's even better. I aint Irish but I love Irish singers like Westlife and Bryan McFadden too and I couldnt care less what anyone else thinks. Irish guys can sing, y'all rock keep doin it!!!! If this is all it takes I should become a reveiwer :oP

Jo Getting Sleepy
One last thing. Ronan could drink any of you under the table he just doesnt brag about it. It's really sad when being a nice generous person makes people dislike you. Goodnight and God Bless!!!!

Jo My Bedroom
This album is now probably my fav album. All the top Ronan song on one cd. Another great thing about Ronan is he always sings live. Anyone who mimes is just ripping off the fans and I wouldnt pay to see it. Anyway about the music which is what this should be about. The album starts with the brilliant When You Say Nothing At All which I think everyone should see this song performed live before they comment. James McNally is brilliant on the flute(not sure exactly what it is but he's awsome and anyone who appreciates good music would have to love it) All of Ronan's band is Excellent and very very talented. The next song Life Is A RollerCoaster is a great pop song. This is the song that got me into Ronans music so I'm really glad that I first heard it. Whenever you hear it you just gotta turn it up loud and sing along. The next song The Way You Make Me Feel was written by Bryan Adams who you can ocassionally hear in the background. They have fairly similar voices so it is difficult to tell the difference unless you know both their voices. It is another brilliant ballard and one of my fav to see performed live. Lovin Each Day is the next song on the album. Another uptempo song similar to Rollercoaster and just as good, I think it was also written by Gregg Alexander from the New Radicals. The next ones If Tomorrow Never Comes originally written by Garth Brooks. I loved this song when Garth sang it but have to say Ronan does it heaps better (sorry Garth) It's another brilliant ballard with a lot of meaning. (I think some of these negative people could learn something from this song) The next song I love It When We Do is another great uptempo pop song and I think another Gregg Alexander song. We've got tonight is next featuring LuLu. I know a lot of people say he's done to many cover songs blah blah blah but the ones he has covered are better than the originals and have become more popular since he covered them. Artists have been covering songs for years and I think they should, if they like the song and want to spruce it up a bit than go for it. As long as they don't totally destroy it which I don't believe Ronan has ever done. Plus if you don't like his version then don't listen to it, Simple. And for the record Ronan has covered approx 15 or so songs and sang over 80 originals solo and more than that many again with boyzone so I think the originals out weigh the covers. Plus he has written and co written a lot of his own song and won awards for them so give him a break. He's also in the Guiness Book of records for the most consecutive no 1 singles EVER so try beat that. The next song The Long Goodbye is one of the best songs ever written which Ronan wrote. Another ballard, I love this song and can never get bored of any Ronan songs. Lost For Words is different to any of Ronans other songs from this album but still equally as good. Even though reveiwers have said that Turn It On was not a good album I would say it was his best album ever and really got me hooked on his music. I hope he does more of this sort of stuff. Who cares what the reveiwers think their all probably 110 years old anyway and we probably dont like their taste in music. But who cares, each to his own. Anyway Lost For Words is another great song but a bit more rock compared to his previous singles. She Believes In Me Is Next, I heard the original to this song and I have to say Ronans version has made me really like the song where as I probably wouldn't have listen to the original. Also the video clip is great too simple but brilliant Which is what most people like Ronan for. He doesnt have to make outragious strange video's they are always simple but brilliant he's not trying to impress anyone or be somethin that he aint. Last Thing On My Mind featuring Leann Rimes(another brilliant singer/song writer and person) This song is a little country but not too much. Wasn't one of my fav when I first got the album but now I really like it. Father And Son, when I first heard this one I wasn't too sure. Probably because I had got used to the Boyzone version and this

Jo My Bedroom
I've read so many negative comments about Ronan in these lyrics boards and album reveiws and I think it's really quiet sad and I normally wouldnt bother writing a comment but I'm getting quiet sick of it. Not just the rudeness towards Ronan but towards anyone in general that we might not like and probably don't know anything about. If you don't like someone then good for you keep it to yourself. How would you like it if you were trying to be good at what you do and everyone knocked you down? I don't think you'd like it. But Ronan doesn't seem to care what other people think about him which must be tough with reviews like this. But not caring what other people think about him has also kept him down to earth and normal not like some of these singers who think that being demanding and rude is the way to go. But that does not make him boring at all. Everyone that has ever met him has said how nice he is and from what I've seen he does have a great personality and a great sense of humour. I think he is quiet normal and adjusted considering what he has been through in his life and if any of us had to go through what he has been through in our lives we might not be so normal. How would you be having your every move watched and critisised since you were 16 plus losing your mother at only 21 and having the public stick their nose into that too? Also if you don't like Ronan than why are you looking at this site? Don't you have a life that you have to go around annonymously slagging people in forums who can't defend themselves and probably couldn't be bothered to. I mean Ronan's the one who gets the last laugh. How many of the people that knock him down all the time have sold over 18 million albums worldwide, can buy anything you could possibly want with plenty to spare which he kindly donates to charity. The proceeds of his last 2 singles were donated to charity, how many people would do that? I doubt a lot of these negative people would donate a cent or a sec of there time to anyone else but themselves and I really wouldn't like to meet you in person if you can be this rude online but I guess the majority of Ronans fans are good people who are attracted to people with the same personality. I've also heard a bit of negitivity towards anyone who helps out charities and it's very sad that people have this attitude, that they don't care about anyone outside there own life. All I can say is most of us a just very lucky to have been born into a country where we get at leats 3 meals a day and a roof over our heads and we should stop thinking about just ourselves for a change. Ronan can afford to help the less fortunate out so he does and that's not something to be critised. A lot of celebs do it and good for them it's the right thing to do. Also the Bryan Adams comment is lame. He is another brilliant singer/song writer and I'm sure a decent guy who Adam Cumiskey has never met. (Don't even get me started on that name - Cumiskey) These people that say he has no talent don't know what their talking about. He's been around for 10 years and is still going strong so I think that says it all. And deschain I wonder what your talent is ???? I can only imagine. Anyway this whole thing is supposed to be about the moosic and the album so I'm gonna write a reveiw about what I think of this album. I don't know if it will fit here so I'll write another one. And yes it is about the music and his brilliant voice not just his looks. "It's the Music and the Man That made me a Fan" Also Help Ro By supporting the Marie Keating Foundation!!!

music for cruise ships and showboats, but my wife (alright Nerris!) and I happen to be quite fond of that and he seems a lovely lad, a worthy successor to Daniel O Donnell

wilfred, baltimore
i get the impression people like him as an idol more than anything else, ah, the world of marketing, still, It cheered me up to read the brilliant review and the comical responses

Randy, California
why cant you people judge or defend Rhoman on his music rather than his "personality"?, personally I don't think his music is so bad, just kinda bland, but thats the hole point, actually I can now see why his "personality/image" is the subject, WHAT CAN YOU REALLY SAY ABOUT THE "MUSAK"?, I'm sure he gets a laugh from these reviews, including the excellent and entertaining one by Sir Cuminsky...could it be that you fans and your money are all the subject of a cleverly designed post-modernist prank?...oh I suppose who cares, you like the music OR DO YOU?, imagine if he looked like Danny De Vito (no offence) and became a recluse, actually that would be quite rad

deschain,bristol
FINALLY! A HONEST REVIEW! this review was spot on, ronan has no talent at all. spot on mr Cuminsky!

Lucy, Carisle
GREAT REVIEW, falling on (tone) deaf ears I'm afraid, judging by the "backlash"

ricky-india
incredible. better than more hyped as*es like robbie williams.no matter what some s***heads wud say, he's the best pop act today. i mean just hear his voice .he cud have been in a rockband too. his songs r perfect sing-alongs. hats off to him. i m his biggest fan in india. f*** u'r enemies, ronan. u bang.

Marius-Romania
What a stupid review! The album is incredible,Ronan's voice is great...in fact the best i know so far. I'm a man but i recognize the simple truth:he says it best... when others don't want to think at all!

roseanne, Germany
It's in fact disgusting how nice down to earth people are treated. Ronan has deserved it to be on top for 10 years. His music is of course a kind of taste, but to say his songs are Karaoke is totally crap.I think the people who critisize that havent listened to the lyrics or are deaf. Its strange that most of the men are thinking so. Maybe all you guys are a bit jealous about that lovely guy, who has achieved so much in 10 years at the age of 27 ????? BTW the album is selling well so far !! Ro go on for the next decade !! His voice and his songs really made my day!

lynn oldham
Ronans album is great hes a lovely man and he deserves all the success hes had well done Ronan ill look forward to the next ten years

k walker glos
i think ronans singing is fantastic he can do covers of other peoples songs and make them sound better than the original artist i hope he keeps singing forever and ever he is a truly talented singer

Laura, Buckinghamshire
This is not exactly what I would describe as a review. At the end of the day, Ronan entertains people and makes a VERY decent wage from it. I personally really like his music, and think that this album is testament to a very successful career, and as far as I'm concerned, it deserved to go to number one. Ronan is a talented guy, and 'The Long Goodbye' is a fantastic song (which he wrote) and is one of my favourite songs ever. Also, it was re-recorded by Brooks and Dunn and went to number one in the Country Billboard Charts in the US. Now if that's not a nod to some serious talent, then I don't know what is. Cat Stevens, Bryan Adams, Lulu and Leann Rimes all joined this album because they are happy to be associated with such talent. At the end of the day, Ro is laughing all the way to the bank. Fair play to the guy. Keep up the good work. Love ya Ro.

kerry, dublin
this is a product from an astute businessman with a carefully contructed/contrived public image. I think the review presented here is very fair. I'm sure he is a great normal guy behind closed doors

Don, Newcastle
to rosie olham, you do have bad taste...terrible taste (along with the thousands of others who buy this stuff). Its nothing to be ashamed off, this is a PRODUCT designed to appeal to the lowest common denomonater and he is the face and the voice of the machine/brand that is Ronan Keating

Dale, Gloucester
I am in no way a Ronan fan and if you asked me I could barely sing you one full line from any of he's songs. But I took my girlfriend as a xmas present to see him and I really enjoyed it. Great singer and very entertaining with a Brilliant band also. Writer clearer old bloke who thinks to much of the 70's era. Get over it!

Nicki Glasgow
I attended Ronan's Concert in Glasgow SECC on the 11th December...I was entertained, it was a great performance...The fact that he has been in the business for ten years says it all. His choice of song sells :)

Ronan would make a shirt for the back, a nice guy, I love his talk and it, ya.

'10 years of H I T S', could this be a spelling error (albeit a Freudian slip type) whereby the S should be at the beginning of the last word rather than the end? I don't really dig these ONGSS.

louise
i love him and his music he is so great what are you all on about.

jackie -england
i love this man for all of the 10 years hes been making music. Mr keating is one of the best and talented artist in the pop that sing live mean what they are singing. before i found Bz and ro i was very shy and woundnt say boo to a goose then i found boyzone and they have helped me more confident in everything i do, so for that i wanna say thank you to ronan he got me for live i love all of his singles and albums. ive loved him way back then and i love you once again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good on you sharh i 100% agree with you.

Laura, west yorkshire
Mr Cuminsky's review is just rude! The word jealousy rings true here!

Chris - England
GOt to be honest - The bloke has a unique and good voice and always seems to perform live - a rarity these days. His songs in general are a mixed bag. Some classic covers of american country songs like 'when you say nothing', 'if tomorrow never comes', 'Long goodbye' are all well performed and are well....just good songs. However some of the the later stuff like 'I hope you dance' dont seem to get going and make his albums uneven. Its all well and good performing some classics (and very well I might add), but needs to put a bit more variety into his album and perhaps try some 'new' songs - 'life is a rollercoaster' is a good example of the types of songs he should even his albums up with. Anyway, I wont be too harsh because I think he deserves a lot more credit then the t*****d at the top of this page has given him. Thanks.

Baky - lebanon
Sorry if i am slow or old fashioned but is this a review? cuz the last time i checked album reviews were about the music and the tracks in that album not who leaves the party first or who makes granny feel younger! Ro is a great and unique singer, there are very rare people like him in the music buiss. these days. We,ro fans, accept critisisim but only when its based on facts and is trying to make ronan correct some mistakes he has done not : 'Sorry you are so nice,u dn swear in your songs, dont make affairs and dont dance with half-naked gurlz in your video so your album sucks!!" I am really pleased that ppl like ro still exist cuz the music now-a-days is goin down and gettin so commercial! its all about swearing, dirty lyrics and no need to speak abt the 'discplined' videos!! I am surprised, actually shocked from you mr.adam, makin fun of his collectin money for charity and being a family man!! Unlike you,Ro dsnt need to cheat his wife, get drunk in parties, get to bed with every butiful gurl mate in order to feel secure. The man has a GREAT 'PERSONALITY',self-confidence and belief so i dn think that any of the stuff that ppl like you write will bother him cuz he knows wut its all about. I juat wanna say that a #1 album means 'success',smthin that you may never experience,i suppose. Ro bein at # 1 isnt smthin new but it is a continious assurance to ppl like you that ronan is a pure legend, havin a successful career for 10 continious years and also a great marriage with two adorable children..sumthin that a normal human-being that has no talent or gift cant do! Ro,your songs are so touching, not naff or balad like some ignorant tasteless ppl say for there is a difference between music and 'MUSIC'..ur an inspiration for a full generation and for mr.adam i say i dn think that the hundred thousand ppl who bought the album were wrong and you are the only right one!! Critisisim is about makin sumone realise his mistakes nt slaggin him off and album reviews are abt the album itself nt the artist and his behaviour..go read a dictionary for god's sake!! and they call you a reviewr!!..ermm...huh?!! ahem..! :| Sumtimes its just pathetic!

Ola - kuwait
Oh my god..i cant belive this! wuts wrong with ppl and this hurtful critisizim that has no base at all!! u know wut i think??! i think that u guyz of the press r just there for sayin lies n crap!! N mR.Adam Cumiskey I THINK U SHOULD SHUT UP!! plz have sum respect,if ronans music wasnt the best he would have never made it till here!! show us wut u can do as a singer n then cum n crisize!! u ppl r PATHETIC!! DONT U DARE SAY ANYTHING OF THIS CRAP AGAIN ABT RO! and like Saoirse said u say it best when u say nothing at all!

David Glasgow
Greatest hits albums always manage to do well, especially near Christmas. Mr K hasn't done too badly but people have to buy their mom's and grannies something different from Cliff or Daniel O'Donnel sometimes. Ronan reminds me of the modern Christmas, pretty to look at but without substance, hyped, commercialized and totally false. The man's laughing all the way to the bank and probably laughing at those on here who take it all in. Then he can sit back and rest after that oh so serious illness of his that got better just at the right time for his last single, but then I suppose there's only so many times you can say "I love my wife" without getting knackered to the point of collapse. It's nice to read an article that actually tells the truth. Well done Adam.

lisa essex
its funny how the majority of ppl slagging ronan off on here are men ha ha ha says it all really they are just jelous how sad just because you are all jelous of his good looks talent and pure and wealth.....

kalpana - birmingham
well i stand by my other point...he's hardly a legend! What do others think? Is he really in the same league as Dylan and Lennon?...please share your views!

No, it wasn't a review, it was a pesonal attack, a particularly nasty one and yes, it was well written which is more than can be said for some of the replies from the anti Ronan brigade who come out of the woodwork at times like this. I mean, quoting Keith from London, 'Ronan Keating is and has been the MOST BLANDEST man in pop'???? Go sue your English teacher, Keith. Then there's Kalpana from B/ham who wants to slash her/his wrists when listening to Ronan, carry on listening, luv! Like it or not, I'm afraid to have to tell you that ppl like Ronan, they buy his music and will continue to do so, he's good at what he does and has out stayed most of the modern pop stars, the average shelf life of a pop star today is 2 years. Those who dislike Ronan so intensely will just have to put up with him while the rest of us enjoy him. I do have to agree with some of the comments made by Kat from Darlington, yes, Ronan's a big boy now, he's also well used to criticism and probably wouldn't give a damn about Mr C's article, but why do you seem to think that ppl like him and buy his music just because he's a nice guy and does charity work? The same could be said for David Beckham (again, love him or hate him) but are you then suggesting that ppl go to watch England play football just because he happens to be their captain? No, i presume they go cos they like to watch the game, just as most ppl buy Ronan's cds cos they like listening to a very distinct and rather sexy voice, if you like that sort of thing, of course, and you have to admit, a lot of ppl do. What I also agree with though is that the offending 'review' (and it was offensive in many ways) was indeed written simply to stir up controversy. When the fans say their piece on here, it helps keep Mr C in a job, just as you do by adding to the controversy. Yes, Mr C is entitled to voice his opinion and so are you, but please, don't call that 'clever' piece of writing a review, it wasn't. It was simply a journalist who knows it's no use dissing Ronan's music to stir up the fans anymore, that's been done time and time again and it's getting boring, so now it's time to attack anything else he might do. Oh yes, the album, it's a great compillation of well known songs, a nice mixture of ballads and uptempo numbers that's ideal to listen to while driving home from work and even good enough for your Christmas party. Basically, I like it and judging by it's chart position, so did a few thousand others, we can't all have bad taste, can we?

Alison Norwich
Mr Cumiskey's review was the biggest load of bulls*** i've read in a very long time, the music that Ronan has been making over the last ten years is full of emotion and brings a lot of happiness to many many people, the album is the final part of the beginning of a long journey thru life in the music business, Ronan has survived where many others have failed due to his talent and sheer bloody hard work. The review should have stopped at being a review, instead of that it was used to vent the personal feelings of a man who quite clearly talks out of his backside and to attack someone for supporting and working tirelessly for a cancer charity is beyond contempt,I can only hope that one day Mr Cumiskey that you do not need the services of one of these cancer charities that Ronan has worked so hard for. Believe me when you have watched a loved one die a slow and painful death you are eternally grateful to the people who work to help create a cure or awareness of such a evil spiteful desease. How dare you berate a man for helping others.

Donna, Surrey
Dislike his music if you want....no problem at all. Album reviews are meant to be about the music - this one clearly isn't, isn't there something wrong then? I don't think there is any controversy in the fans' comments.

Scott Surbiton
F**k me, he's right right you know. what a turgid pile of pants that album is. as far as im concerned, charity begins at home, which is exactly where keating shouldve stayed. welldone mr cuminskey for a review that doesnt reward blandness because its being done in the name of a 'good cause'!

Kat, Darlington
Come, come. I think Ronan is a big boy. I think he can take ANY criticism. He has after all been in the music industry for what was it, 10 years you say?! Reading this review brought a smile to my face. So what if it is negative toward Ronan. In the world of media you have to take the rough with the smooth. Each and every review doesn't need to be full of praise. How dull a world would that be! And I am 100% positive that if Mr Cumiskey met or saw Ronan in concert he would not eat his words. Taste changing to popular boy band culture? I don't think so. Ronan caters to a specific market, which Mr Cumiskey surely doesn't fall. Some people just don't like Ronan's attempt at a music career. Face up to it. Just because he's a nice guy and does work for charity doesn't mean you've got to fall at his feet and paste posters of him all over your walls. Does it? Why would anyone print this review? To perhaps stir up controversy? Remember: It's only words.

Keith, London
I totally agree with Adam Cumiskey. Ronan Keating is and has been the most blandest person in pop for the past decade. The fact that he has got away with it for so long is a testament to the poor taste of tweenagers in the 90s and 00s.

Simon - Hinchley Wood
Jenny from west Midlands said in her comment - "i love ronan's new album" 1st off its a greatest hits album not really new is it (sorry my mistake it as a new song on it - how long untill that becomes his new single?)Then Hayley from Cambs says: "i cant believe the BBC would post something like this on their site!" WEll surely the BBC is a forum for the paying public and hence encourages freedom of speech - if you don't wont to hear or read critical articules that are both cleaver and witty then I suggest you should head on over to the Capital Radio website and stop complaining about this very funny insight into what is nothing more than a attention seeking, pop idle market of music.

Vickie from brum
I love the album..straight to number 1.. says it all 10 years in the business still playing to arenas..well done ronan ... to all the dissers dont care what u think :0p

Ayesha, South lo
Inoffensive and bland? Ronan Keating punched me in the head leaving me unconscious and bleeding to death on the street. No...wait, that was me. I knocked myself out when reading all these comments in support of Ronan's album. Don't you get it people, the review isn't a snipe at doing charity work or being a nice person, its about the fact that Ronan has no conviction whatsoever. He is another one of these 'artists' (ahem) that have made it big NOT due to talent, NOT due to personality and certainly NOT because he has anything AT ALL to say for himself. He is a nothing, a black hole, a vacuum. He is in fact like anti-matter occupying no physical space in the world, doing nothing for culture, except existing in a hyperreal, self absorbed, self congratulatory celebrity world. Well done Ronan, you've made a really spread the blandular fever. Well done.

sarah (birmingham)
i am 17 years ols and have been listening to ronan for 10 years now, irst in boyzone now i have followed him through his solo career. the true is this review is all wrong, ronan is brilliant if he couldn't sing or make it as a solo artist then he wouldn't be here now, i lobve ronan and have all his albums and singles, they are all brilliant, his a real family man, loves his wife amd kids and loves doing charity work to raise money for the marie keating fund. I don't know how people can say bad things becasue e collects for charity and say he asn't got a personality. his got a better personality that you mr curmiskey so i suggest you shut up and don't bother reviewing any more of ronans albums or singles. we you want to review a album again then think of the ronan song when you say nothin at all before you do. Get a life like ronan as

rob - cardiff
Ronan`s should be in a group not singing solo. Tell him to rejoin Westlife

Steve, Berkshire
This review has got a lot of people mad! My opinion? It's aggresive, doesn't focus on the music and takes some rather unnecessary personal swipes at Ronan. However it is accurate of Adam Cumiskey to say that Ronan's music is bland. Let's be honest - his first solo album had one good tune on it "Life is a Rollercoaster" but the rest of the album was really naff. As for those of you supporting Ronan I say fair enough. But to sugest he is a legend and a truly awesome star is inaccurate - he's not. Ronan is to music what 'Wimbledon' is to film - a big popular money maker and No.1 hit machine but bland and soulless popcorn fodder nonetheless.

Jhoanna - Philippines
You Mr. Adam Cumiskey if you want to be treated with respect treat other with respect. Is that what you call a review, i wonder how you became a journalist i guess you have to go back in gradeschool... you don't have a right to slag Ronan, you are jealosus right??? well what can i say Ronan is handsome, a heartthrob, a very down to earth person, y'know everything he is a man with PERSONALITY.. So mr. cumiskey if you can't say anything nice you better say NOTHING AT ALL. Ronan go on don't mind those s**t people, your doing a nice job and we all BELIEVE IN YOU!!

lisa bas
looks like a load of pratts have jumped on mr c`s bandwagon how sad shame they have nothing better to do with their time than slag someone off to make themselves feel cool well news for ya saddos get a life and leave ronan and his music alone!!

Sukhi from coventry
oh give Mr Cumiskey a break...i thought it was well written and funny...you ronan fans need to get a grip...there's more to life and musical taste than him, and if you don't think so...you deserve to wallow in your own ignorance.

Kalpana -Birmingham
This is the most honest review i have ever read! All hail Mr Cumiskey ....and a personal request to Ronan Keating - please stop making me want to slash my wrists. A legend?! Come off it John Lennon's a legend, Bob Dylan's a legend - you can hardly put Ronan in the same league!

Becka, Oxford
What a load of old granny knickers. You are one sick individual for making fun of charity work, what does that acheive ?? Oh yeah makes you look like a mindless idiot. This is on of the best if not the best album ever. I some how doubt you could still be here after 10 years. Your the one with no personality. Keep up the brilliant work Ro, and ignore the idiots like this Mr Clumoskey they obv have no taste/sense in their tiny little brains !!!

Ben-Melbourne
"Murderer. You killed my song" That is what I imagine a lot of songwriters saying to Ronan. Spot on review Mr Cumiskey

Eleonor, Canada
Fantastic album, fantastic performer and an unforgettable voice. This is a collection of music that I do enjoy, and I see I'm not alone. I guess it means that we don't like music? Also, judging by the review, I gather you don't like Ronan as no one deserves to be called albino and being ridiculed just because they've worked with a bonafide artist such as Bryan Adams.

Ali Cambridgeshire
The fact that this album stormed to the No1 spot in the album chart last week, and looks set to only be beaten by Robbie Williams this week, puts Mr Cumiskey's comments truly in their place! That place being the garbage! Fair enough if Keating's music is not your cup of tea. But is there any need for an assault on someones character in a review of his music? Ronan can only be applauded for his endless charity work surely, how can anyone be slated for raising money for a cancer charity? And Mr Cumiskey has obviously never been invited to any of the parties Ronan goes to...but perhaps with those kind of inter-personal skills, he never gets invited to parties full stop?!

gabriella,romania
I bought the CD just so that i will be able to listen to all those tracks that bring back memories of friends that i no longer have contact with. This review of the album is shocking, cna't believe that the BBC has put it on their site.I think Ronan is an amazing entertainer, i saw him in Regent's Park and i was blown away. And just because he doesn't fall out of the strip joint every day or gets photographed fighting does not make him a lesser man. He is more a man than any other bloke that finds any excuse to be a prat. He is a family man who loves his wife and adores his two children. I wish there were moe people like him in the world. He is an amazing singer. Roll on another 20 years. You are a legend Ronan, and your fans will always be there for you.

Jackie Surrey.
Ronan Keating does not subscribe to the overhyped, egotisical, bad mannered, yob culture that demands public displays of swearing, drunkeness, and bad manners. If that (as your review would suggest) makes him instantly unforgettable and bland then all I can say is I for one am very glad. If those are the traits that he has to exhibit to satisfy your reviewer then may hell freeze over before that happens. As for the actual music involved, the album, it is a collection that celebrates a solid 10 year journey. The three re recorded songs from Boyzone days clearly reflect the maturity in Ronans live vocals that 10 years of singing live has give him. A perfect ending to the first chapter of a career, a perfect launchpad into the next. An album I would have no hesitation in recommending to others. Jax

Paul,Ireland
adam you dont have a f***ing clue wat your s***ing bout ya talentless bum, just thinknig there wat talents do u havwse to have to become a critic and wat talents do u have to have to become and internation pop start and be on top for ten years???adam i think ro wins

Stacey, Northants
Call that a review? I was under the impression that reviews were meant to accurate and unbiased. This Adam person certainly seems to have something against Ronan. Jealous perhaps??? Terrific album in my view, can listen to it start to finish and each track is just as good as the last. comes highly recommended to all pepole in all age groups. A five star winner! Well done Ronan!

Lynda-Scotland
This is one of Ronans albums ever! He has acheived a lot in 10 years and will be here for at least another 10! You go Ro!

Catherine, s.wales
The cheek of Mr Cumiskey Ronan didn't deserve a review like that! I think the album is brill. Ronan your lucky, talented, gorgeous young artist. Mr Cumiskey is just arrogant. Here's to another 10 years ro... Cheers!

Eily, Jersey, Channel Islands
What a disgusting & rude review! 10 Years of Hits is a fantastic album and Ronan is to be congratulated for it, not slagged off! Also, your personal attack on Ronan's charity work is absolutely unforgivable, next time you write something, try putting your brain into gear first, and if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

Caggy, Durham
A crap album eh? Well how come it made no.1?!!!

jos
i don't know what is wrong with the reviewer. although I had not listened to the whole album, I am disgusted by the way Ronan Keating was dissed for being emotional and singing with his heart. Well, music is supposed to move people and you are slamming him for moving and touching people's heart. Go and get a life, cold-hearted b***h. (yes I think you are a sissy)

Chris - S. Wales
This review is utter rubbish, the album is gr8 & over 101,000 people also thought the same. How can u say that he has no personality just cos he don't badmouth people or take drugs. & 2 slag him off for his charity work is disgusting, just think of all the people he is helping by doing it, this can happen to anyone of us so i'm glad that there are people like Ronan around.

Yvonne, Essex
I think that review is horrible as it attacks him personally. Fair anougher you dont like his stuff, clearly alot of people do as it went striaght in at 5 in ireland and one in england. Plus all his single have gone in the top ten and got a record for this beating madonna AND ELVIS . Plus i am 23 and would hope my two children look up to someone like ronan who clearly puts his wife and childeren first instead of getting drunk or having affairs and taking drugs to be popular.Ronan is the one with the personality not like you who have to bully people to feel better

Geoff, Molesey, Surrey, UK.
Ronan Keating is an unnesessary figure in music. His songs are bland and toothless. Thankyou Mr. Cumiskey for your accurate review. The only people who disagree with you are the moronic British public that enjoy pub Karaoke (empty orchestra) and take their life philosophies from the back page of 'heat' magazine. As far as I'm concerned, this awful pop he inflicts upon us is not real music - it's just an incentive to turn the radio off.

tracebec,west mids
how can you possibly critise someone who has notched up ten years of fantastic hits. how many artists from ten years ago are still getting top 5 hit singles and no 1 albums. so what if hes a family man, doesnt do drugs and is dedicated to raising money for his late mothers charity perhaps if there were more role models like him today there wouldn't be so much teenage crime. heres to another ten years ronan i love the album and mr C a bit of advise go and see ro in december and eat your words!!!!

Clairej - Leeds
Your reviewer does not know great music when he hears it. Ronan's new album is really brillant I am really loving the new recordings of the Boyzone songs, and the new song Somebody else id just fantastic. Ignore this man and listen to real people.

amanda west yorkshire
what a load of crap !! Ronan is a truly amazing artist and I hope he is around for at least another 10 years ! cos I for one will still be buying his music and touring with him ! Ronan - we love ya babe !! Keep Rocking and keep shaking that ass !!! ;)

kent
Fair play to Ronan - this album is great and the re-recorded Boyzone tracks are absolutely amazing. To all his critics who I suspect know nothing about him or have never heard him perform live- he is here to stay and if only there were more like him about today. He has a wonderful warm personality and captures an audience with the most sensuous of voices. He is genuinely lovely and is fortunate enough to have the looks to match. - Jealousy is a terrible thing Mr Cumiskey.

martijn - belgium
i agree with everyone that this is one crappy writer with a load of crap review,if it's you're job to write this crap, then i want to become a reviewer too--> easy money

Katie from Surrey
BULLS***! Ronan Keating loves his music and has worked hard throughout the last ten years. And as for the Bryan Adams comment - how dare you speak of such a legend with so much disrespect! I'd say we want decades more to come - not 'oh no has it really been 10 years'

Chris - Wales
This review is absolute rubbish. Mr Cumiskey you're supposed to be reviewing the album not slagging off the artist, just cos he don't badmouth people or take drugs don't mean that he don't have a personality. Slagging him off for his charity work is disgusting. I'm very proud to be a Ronan fan & absolutely love the album, roll on the next 10 years & more.

OzGirl, Australia
How can a personal attack on an artist's personality, lifestyle and charitable work be defined as an album review? There is literally no coverage of the album songs, nor any value add for the reader. Just a lot of drivel from a man who clearly has NO IDEA!! Well, now that the album has claimed the top spot in the charts, I wonder what credibility the author has now. Ronan Keating is a successful artist who has 30 top 10 singles to his name, and has found fame not only for his vocal talents, but also his altruistic pursuits. The author of this review is a nobody who has achieved nothing noteworthy in his career, and is a LOSER. No bonus points for guessing whom I am going to support!

angie - somerset
I can't believe what an absolute load of rubbish this excuse for a man has written. I am proud to be a ronan fan and have been since he started. this is a brilliant album, and one iv'e been waiting for, for a long time.

Julie Ireland
Ronans album is fantastic!!your reviewer obviously has no taste!!there are over 100,000 people in the UK who disagree with him as its number 1 in the UK!!

lisa essex
i think your reveiw of the album sucks and the reveiwer is obviously talking out of his a***

Lynn -Little Sutton
What an absolutley disgusting piece of so called journalism if this man got paid for writing this crap then its a joke. He is entitled to an opinion about the music, but I doubt he has ever met the man or been to a concert or performance of his, if he had he would be eating his words ( and hopefully making him very poorly in the process) I'm all for freedom of speech, but Ronan doesnt get a chance to retaliate to these type of pathetic comments so his fans will do it for him, he is number one in the Album charts he had sold more than 101,000 records to get there so that is one in the eye for the very rude and misinformed mr Cumiskey. The BBC should be disgusted at themselves for allowing this. Ronan your album is fab as is all your other works, roll on the next 20years and more, keep it coming because you say it best when your singing live".

Donna, Surrey
It is a shame you have nothing but ridicule for somebody who works so hard and has stayed so down to earth - just because someone doesn't badmouth others and doesn't do drugs does not mean they have no personality. You go on slagging charity work - just remember your words when one of your family members or friends gets really really ill. You seem to forget it can happen to any of us, thank God people like Ronan are aware of that.

Pauline, Scotland
I'll agree with everyone else. What a crap review. Ronan does a personality, or he wouldnt be here after 10 years. The songs on the album are all hits, that the public bought, so obv. its an album for people who like music. And Ronan being the good, well behaved sober one at a party? LOL Funny. Tell his family & friends that!

Jenni, Finland
When I read this review for the first time I could't believe my eyes. How rude can someone be?! If you really don't have anything else to write about than this kind of rubbish or just make fun of charity work then I suggest you find another job for yourself. Saiorse is right, you say it best when you say nothing at all. I bet you couldn't do the same as Ronan has, ten years in pop business and still he keeps doing it. Shame on you Mr Cumiskey. And now you are laughing there reading these and thinking that we can't handle any criticism towards Ronan but that's just another thing where you are wrong. We can handle it but only to a certain point.

rajdeep,india
The album is absoloutely brilliant, infact one of the best greatest hits album by an artist.Keep the good work Ronan we all love your work

ong
let's be fair to this chap. mediocre voice, cute face, pleasant personality. Good choice of songs, rollercoaster, loving each day, when u say nothing at all, we've got tonight... No, he shouldnt deserve the harsh comments.

Sabrina Smith, Derry
ronan keating is an absolute legend! How dare u slag him off Mr Cumiskey!

Angela Kent
I found it an appalling review, it was a personal attack on an artist that Adam Cumiskey clearly doesn't like!. It wasn't constructive about Ronan's musical ability at all. We're reviewing the content, not the artist. Ten years in the pop music industry is a remarkable achievement and should be congratulated, not scoffed at. Whether it's your bag or not, Ronan's music makes me and a lot of people happy, of all ages!!.

Amy, Darlington
What an absolutely rubbish review. Your reviewer has obviously never met Ronan to say he has no personality. He is one of the funniest, charming and polite man in pop! And before you say it no I'm not a 40 year old housewife with nothing better to do - I'm an 18 year old teenager!

Hayley, Cambs
Adam Cumiskey's review of ronans new album is downright rude and offensive and i cant believe the BBC would post something like this on their site! Slagging off Ronans songs is one thing but slagging off him raising money for charity is surely disgusting. Ronan may not act like your 'Liam Gallaghers' of this world (THANK GOD) but at least he's doing something he obviously loves and whats wrong with making others happy in the process? Roll on Ronans next ten years at the top!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Laraine, Ireland
Absolutely love the album. It has all his own hit singles with a beautiful new song, Somebody Else and great new versions of three Boyzone songs without the four backing singers

jenny west mildlands
i love ronan's new album it is great love them all he has got a new song on there called somebody else which is so good go out and buy it it is brill top marks !!!!!!

Pat : Toronto, Canada!
I heard the cd and thought it was FANTASTIC,Good for you Ronan ,,,Keep them comming!

Marlis , germany
Thats one of the Greatest Hits Album I'm waiting for a long time. the hits of Ronan are placed on that lovely cd how they were released. Its a real pleasure to listen to them. And, wow , he's only 27 and in fact 10 years in that cruel business! Thats very unique! Which artist can say that! It's a real jewel in every record collection!! Ronan go on, I love it when you do it !!!

Saoirse - Wales
What a load of crap! You can't get any lower than this! Making fun of charity work... Get a life! I think you say it best when you say nothing at all Mr Cumiskey!
