Review

by Alan Braidwood
13 October 2005

You probably already know the first single "Hung Up". The album is in a similar vein; full-on dance, dark, disco, fun, big. At first it's a shock: where is the re-born English Lady? It's been an age since we listened to this kind of Madonna. Think "Vogue", "Deeper & Deeper" and "Ray of Light", instead of "Don't Tell Me" or "Nothing Fails".

The album's closest relative in its overall sound is Erotica, during its Shep Pettibone produced club driven moments. It's also destined to be loved way more than 2003's chilly American Life, an all-time sales low for Madonna. Highlights here include the lethally catchy "Sorry", "Jump", "How High", "Push", and "Like it Or Not". The word 'dork' in I "Love New York" is awkward, and "Isaac" is Shanti, 2005-style. However, this is the most commercial album Madonna has made in 15 years and it's magic.

It's BEYOND WORDS!! let's not overanalyze.. just INDULGE ;)

Austin, U.S.A
I luv the album. I'm probley the youngest fan being 13, but she rocks! I first got interested in her when she came out with "American Life." It was an awsome c.d jus like this one but this one is even better. Every time I saw "Hung up" or "Sorry" on T.R.L, I would call my friends and say, "Madonna did it again!" I can't wait 4 the next album!

Nelly ,France!
The new Madonna album sounds good, though there's nothing new, 'Forbidden Love' is already a title song from her 1994 album, some lyrics remind us of Kylie Minogue and Madge's Confessions...well let's say we heard it all before!i'm a huge fan of her, collecting everything...Wait the 'Confessions Tour' to see how she'll be putting the record on stage...

Dave, Oxford
I was actually looking forward to hearing Madonna's new album. It was a Birthday present and I'm so sorry I made my friend pay for it. Where to start.... Madonna is trying too hard to stay in the industry, she isn't 20 anymore and her fan base is sinking faster than the Titanic, shes 48 and looking rough. Confessions bored me silly. Frankly its RUBBISH and Anthony Uk (Drama queen) ask your boyfriend nicely to pay for some therapy.

Nonnie
This is definitely gorgeous album! I love the rhytm of Let It Will Be! It is so ambitious. This is the fourth best album by Her. My Queen!!<3 Forever.

Peter, Sydney
It puts a smile on my face each time i put it on, you can't get much better than that...Get Together just has to be the 3rd single!!! then Jump then Push...

this album is truly amazing and it feel like her old stuff from the 90's

kieth, london
WOW, Never been a real fan, but this keeps getting better the more I listen to it. I really can't take this off my stereo for a minute. I hope she does another album similar to this. Actually thinking about going to see her live. I'm officially converted. Just what good dance/pop albums should be.

Andrew Hurley, Wallasey, England
I must confess, I don't normally buy Madonna albums as a rule but as soon as I heard "Hung Up" I had to own it - and I wasn't disappointed. OK you could argue that anyone who has to sample an abba song (or any song for that matter) to have a hit is incapable of being original but that simply isn't true in Ms Ciccone's case. Sorry and Push me stand out making this a great disco album and her best album yet - reminiscent of Ray of Light.

Ben Maanchester
Excelllent best dance album out a the momment she may be 47 but shes still fantastic but maybe she shud give the lotards a miss now at her age

Anibal, London
Oops, She did it again! Pure dance non-stop music, magnific sound. My favourite track is Forbiden Love. Madonna still reigns..

JC
london like a prayer is still her best work i miss pat leonard and stephen bray!!!

Well what can i say but, a fantastic return to form from the queen of pop. Having read some of the reviews on your site the people who are negative about the album need to remember one thing. It is a dance album pure and simple ok she will not win awards for lines like 'other places make me feel like a dork' but, who cares it is a dance album through and through. She has taken samples from old songs including her own and updated them for the here and now and that is no mean feat. Roll on the next tour i will be there for one.

Leslie, US
It is strange that Madonna was considered a post modern feminist icon years ago. This album proves that she forgot how to confront even in the mild way she had in the past. The 70s look- done by many artists much more cleverly. The disco beats- I would recommend Donna Summer, Kraftwerk, and Slyvester. Also, at her age she should know that it is time to pack up the over sexed look. One person alluded to Bowie, and he certainly knew that growing older meant presented a more mature picture of sexuality. It also is cringe inducing to see her attempt to write lyrics that a fifteen year old would laugh at (New York/Dork..any questions?) as well as denegrate a religion she allegedly espouses. Again, see Bowie's subtle allusions to spirituality instead of the "I need to beat you over the head with my commercial endorsement of a religion". A fundamentally flawed album from a woman who should be wise enough by now to know better. Horrid.

Chris, Montreal
It is truly amazing than an artist can continue to spark so much interest in us for more than 20 years. This woman (of all women) has continued to provoke, set the trend and standard but most of all "move" us through her music for more than 20 years. That is unheard of! Confessions on the dance floor is yet another landmark. Pulsating music beats, mixed with subtle human emotion. Although Madonna, claims on "Sorry" that she has "heard it all before", we, her fans, respond with "let us hear some more" because with Madonna, "it will never be the same". Truly a musical legend by all means.

xxxellzxxx
i think her album is gr8 shes done really well for herself over the years and i love all her music especially sorry and she looks fab for a 47 year old i must say after 15 years of waitin shes come back with the hit singles "sorry" and "hung up" absolutely brilliant

Anthony Uk
Bitching about great artists must be the 'in' thing at the moment. Does anyone know of the old saying, "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all"???? Confessions is light and fun after American life, although I can't see why everyone disliked it so much because it suited the time and was very political, maybe too much for the 'average joe' to cope with? She lifted the mood with something she has always done well, with an obvious helping hand from the likes of Abba (did I need to say it, no)Donna Summer, and more of the same type of camp classic sounds. But she has given them all a new lease of life! Yes, some lyrics are very simular to other great artists but none are used in the same context, so I really don't think she deserves the bashing she is getting! p.s. If you are going to review something, try using your brains because the word 'RUBBISH' doesn't really count!!!

Gejo, London
Very good marketing campaing and catchy songs. Madonna knows how to make business. Original? No, 70s fashion was used a few years ago. She should move on and stop playing a hot-pop-girl. We know she is quite sexy since long time ago, why insisting in the same stuff?

Monica, Italy
Whatever Madonna records, writes, says, etc, unfortunately gets lost in the "glamourous", which is the most evident aspect of Madge's phenomenon. For this reason, what Madonna does can't be taken seriously. I say this as a matter of fact, not as a critic. I admire her very much for her career and for the peaks it achieved.

hub, canada
Madonna has always reinvented herself and this album is amazing, Actually I prefer the unmixed version on itunes to hear the end of each song. All singles are amazing so far and the remixes WOW, the pet shop boy remix of sorry is my favourite since the video remix of what it feels like for a girl. Let it will be paper face mix is great, better than the album version, I love new york is really cool and funny, Future lovers is so great in the evidence of its brillance ;) the donna Summer I feel love of 2000, How high is my favourite track with forbiden love... excellent madonna cd, its already a classic!!! cant wait to see her live again in 2006!!

Neil, Shepton Mallet
I wasn't a great fan of Madonna in fact i couldn't stand her. I didn't like her music, didn't like the way she thought she was better than everyone else BUT!!!! On Xmas day, i open my present from my sister, and I get this, Great i thought, a Madonna CD, so there i go upstairs to my room a start playing the CD, mmm I thought this isn't to bad, skip to the next track, getting better i though, skip to the third track, WOW THIS IS WICKED, where the hell has this track come from!!! I haven't stopped listening to the CD sinse i got it for xmas!! Great, Brilliant, Fantastic, groovy, cool, excelent! WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY

Chris in London
An amazing album, its very close to being her best, but Ray Of Light is the 10/10 album, but id give confessions 9.5/10

Gary, leeds
Madonna has lost the plot, Confessions isn't a great record, lets be honest. We all wasted our money on it hoping for something that wasn't delivered. Sorry is the best track. Her days as Queen are over. Kabala has destroyed who she was. Today, she is a joke. -1/10

Madonna PSB forgot my name

absolutelly amazing, madonna and Pet Shop Boys toguether..... can't say anything else the best toguether for the first time

I've become a Madonna fan since 2004. I have to say this album is wonderful! It makes me wanna dance! This time Madonna is very Madonna and her music is quite diffrent from American Life. I can find sth through 1980s to now. Thanks to her "confessions" about life and familly, it is time to wake up for people who take familly, happiness and love for granted.

Jesper, Stockholm, Sweden
I'm fifteen and what I'm going to say may seem remarkable...This album is a monument to teenage spirit: it's full of life and rythm. And it's a result of a 47-year old woman. I'm such a feminist after listening to this album and years doesn't mather anymore!

Gus Trinidad and Tobago
Been a fan from day one (Everybody) so call me biased..though I am fair! My personal fave album by her is still Like a Prayer. That album had depth and could make you move all the same...absolutely brilliant. Confessions is different. It doesn't try to be that deep and succeeds in still giving you a quick bite on the arse (Like it or Not). At its best its VOGUE (Jump, Hung Up, Get together, Sorry). At its weakest its AL (Future Lovers). Though overall this is Madonna in terrific form...The Queen of Pop...delivering Super Pop ;)

Arca
Get ready for the next single people! "SORRY" will blow ur socks off!

Eric, Canada
First let me say, I'm a huge Madonna fan. I have almost every album and remix she's put out. But ever since Ray of Light, I've lost interest. Music, American Life and COADF all lacked something. It's starting to feel like she's a fraud somehow. COADF sounds like stuff I've heard before. "Like it or Not" sound like "Tainted Love", "Jump" sounds like "People Are Still Having Sex" by Latour, and she even copies Kylie with "How High" and lyrics like "Better the devil that you know". Also what's with the ABBA look and influence, I thought we did the 70's in the early 90's. Was she trying to be a Scissor Sister? I think she tried too hard with too many elements of pop culture and didn't let it mature in her genius. She didn't make it her own this time. She just mushed it all together and slapped her name on it.

A great return to form, each track is excellent and for the first time in many years Madonna sounds like she's having fun. Forbidden Love is the stand out on the album for me.

Alex Barcelona
Could be better...I've been a fan since ever but somehow disappointing...Is it the end of the Madonna????

Chris, London
A M A Z I N G!

I cant believe some poeple here are trashign this albums. I think this album is amazing if you want to dance, but if you want to sit around and critisize it than liston to another album. All the songs are soo fun. My favorite is Future Lovers. I hope its realesed as a dance single cause i love it. I think the only song Im not totally crazy about is how high, but other then that I like them all. Im not surprized that Madonna is number one in so many countries. The only thing is some poeple are upset that she isnt dominating the US charts, but poeple need to know that her album is already platinum in the US. and that the main music thats played on the radio here is R&B and rap. Confessions doing better then any other dance album out there. Overall this album is amazing and poeple can liston to it and have a good time, and if they want to just sit around comlaining then do it by your self. If you dont like the album than dont liston to it and move on becuase there is a hell of alot of pople that love it.

Its not Music Its not Ray of Light.. its still fantastic.. I was depressed after American Life.. This is good.. JUMP with the opener "theres only so much you can learn in one place..the more that you wait the more time that you waste" means a lot to me.. Doesnt anyone get the joke in I love New York.. come on, the woman is capable of better lyrics ..this one is purely tongue in cheek and is not a serious affirmation of her love for the city..trust me.. HOW HIGH means something else.. Its her most listenable album..tell me who does good fun pop music anymore.. take a cue

Britney
This is one is a classic, i found this album as a mixture of everything she has done.MADONNA YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!!!!! Thanks for coming back with this new cd!!!!!!!!

Hamish, London
A good album made for singles. The 4/4 gets a bit dull and the songs are only broken up by irrelevant, breathless, 'spiritual'(?) comments. The album is like one huge, long paragraph. Having said that I like it a lot. Not her best, but possiblly the best she could do now. It's easier to rely on a genius like Stuart Price. Getting lazy? A success for him, and not for her. Well worth getting into this.

Mondale, London
Wonderful album, shame about the harsh, ear-fatigueing tone - especially on Hung up. Vocals are reaally sibilant, and the high-end generally is far too harsh.

Jean, South Africa
After reading most of the posted comments. We can all agree the majority think "Confessions..." is a great album. Maybe not one that will be remembered for years to come, but definitely a tonic to clear the head after a long hard year...and for those who are having summer now...who could ask for a better summer album? And those having winter...well hotter than a hotplate? It rocks!

Biagio, Locarno (Switzerland)
In a year dominated by many artists from the eighties or the nineties who decided to come back with merely commercial collections,Madonna's effort is absolutely great. It is a magnificient disc and I would say it is one of the best of the year. Again, she reinvents herself, but she still remains herself. There is a lesson we really need to learn from her: you do not have to be incredibly talented to be an artist, art can also be creativity. Anyway,my favourite tracks are "Jump" and "Get together".

Sami, Nottingham
This album is great but not brilliant. I've been a fan of Madonna since I was 14 and I'm now 37 (yeah I know). But to say the album is rubbish by some on here is stupid, give me a break!. There are some brilliant songs on here.....'Sorry', 'Jump' and 'Let it will be' are my favourites, some are so so and not her best work. This is a fun dance album and its not supposed to be 'deep' or meaningfull as say 'Ray of Light' so stop comparing the two albums for God's sake. Its a fab, fun dance album....thats it! Madonna dosen't get credit for writing songs, I think people should keep their mouths shut until they have been in the recording studio and watched her work before making sexist comments about Madonnna's talent.

Matt, London
Though everyone is entitled to their opinion, I really feel that anyone who mounts an unreasoning dissent against this album isn't giving it a fair trial. I agree that she's still in her infancy when tring to incorporate spirituality into her lyrics. When she's trying to be deep and profound she only ends up sounding pretentious, vague and even naff. She actually says more when she's not trying to say anything atall. However, whereas Mirwais was often creatively stumped, Stuart Price cartainly knows how musical seeds grow. Madonna made her name in the eighties due to a string of hits that were largely succesful beacause of their classic pop melodies. Yes her lyrics were good as pop songs but it was the melodies that earned the songs there evergreen status. Before she was lucky enough to meet (classically trained film score writer) Pat Leonard, most of her other hits were penned by other musically trained writers, namely Holiday, Crazy For You, Material Girl, Like A Virgin, Dress You Up, Borderline, Papa Don't Praech and Open Your Heart (check out the writing credits). Then came the Pat Leonard years which continued her reputation for churning out quality tunes. It was when she stopped working with writers and concentrated on the producers for her inspiration that things started turning pear shaped. Not being a trained tunesmith herself the production was substituted for the musical content which became the hall mark of the dreary offerings of the nineties. Notice how 'Ray Of Light' was much more of a critical success. This was the first album in 10 years featuring her long term collaborator of the eighties, Pat Leonard, and also some collaborations with Rick Nowells. Madonna needs to remember that she needs the help of good musicians (not just good producers, after all a producer is only there to put the icing on the cake and give the song a good sound.) Working with Stuart Price (again classically trained) she manages to hit the mark again. Musically this album is a lot better than the creatively impaired Mirwais collaborations. This IS a good album. She needs to be careful of trying to sound too profound (and only sounding amateur, like a school girl writing in a diary), but aside from that, I've heard a lot worse. For me, the best tracks are 'Push' - which drives me crazy, I love it, and 'Sorry'. Give it a chance, even the lesser tracks are growers. 9/10

Al Kipling, Sheffield UK
Well worth it and a must have, even if you can only afford one album this year - other than the Gorillaz.

Why am i feeling so HAPPY all of a sudden? Hey is that my feet TAPPING ? :) BRILLIANT!

fred, london
this proves madonna's got her finger on the pulse. cutting edge, yet on the edge... pop, yet creative. you might not like this if you're a long-term mandonna fan, but if you're into the electro/disco/berlin sound that's so big at the moment.. you'll love it!

charles sydney Australia
I actualy overall think American life is a better more interesting album (except for the title song) confessions has 5 ok songs. i was very disapointed. Maybe madonna has had her day. album)

Ben, Washington, DC
I may have been raised in rural Alabama, but there's something about listening to "Push" whilst out and about that feels like it's pushing me down the street. That's something Madonna hasn't accomplished in a long time.

ryan manchester
the best album from madonna in years ......... confessions should have been the follow up 2 ray of light... great music 4 our time....!!

San Francisco
Not the best but definetly not rubbish. It is her dance music and I don't expect like her "classic". For those of you beat her to death, just leave her alone. Like it or not.

Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Believe me or not, I still dont have the CD since I asked it as a Xmas gift. But all I have heard is that the album is really amazing...I will get into the groove, I know it.

paul newcastle
ive always been a madonna fan that doesnt mean i think everything shes done is great for me her poorest album was music confessions is a work of art and the louder it is the better my 3 outstanding tracks apart from hung up have to be sorry (now 1 of my favourite ever tracks) isaac and let it will be when im at work and feeling down i put these on and belt them out to lift me madonna is a genius and gets alot of stick especially from some so called fans and those critics should never write her off or theyll end up choking on their own words confessions has to be one off her best albums to date and american life was fantastic mother and father should of been a single long live madonna never give up your music xxxxx

Manuel, South Africa
"Let It Will Be" is AWESOME!!! My favourite track by far. Other great tracks: "Hung Up", "Get Together", "Sorry" & "Jump". "I love New York" is the low point of this album. Trying to figure out all the samples used on this album was lots of fun. Almost as good as Ray of Light album.

Jurgen, Manila
Have you heard JUMP? If not, then you're missing a lot. This is Madonna's best album ever.

Nick, Manchester
Good God! All you Madonna-criticisers just bog off! This album is pure class. no1 and selling truck loads as it deserves.

Jason, London
This album is F***ING anal. Waste of money

David, Liverpool
I'm always concerned when an album of Madonna's is hyped up prior to release. Will it live up to it??? Well the answer is most definitely yes! What other artist could take some best bits from other music greats (ABBA,Donna Summer etc) and then take them to a higher level! Hung Up was quite rightly a No.1 and I'm positive that Sorry and Jump (my fave track)will repeat that success when released. The rest of the tracks are "growers", but once you get the hook of them they're absolute belters. None more so than Isaac! Hated it when I first heard it, but now rate it as one of the albums stand-out tracks! Overall an amazing addition to the Madonna back catalogue. She wanted this album to make people jump out of their seats, and boy has she succeeded.... right onto the Dance Floor!

Belgrade
This album is great ! I like it, it super ! My favorite songs are Hung up, Sorry, Future lovers , How high ...

Tito, Santiago de Chile
As addictive as those 80's Madonna's albums. For those of us who have grown up with her music this is very good news...and the "Future Lovers" phrase "there is no love like future love" is well worth the album...Madge at her best in a world full of boring albums...

Adrian, Warrington
An absolutely stonking album. I have been slightly disappointed by Madonna's last two albums but this one came as a complete surprise. The collaboration with Stuart Price has obviously paid off. I normally find one or two tracks on any album that I'm not as keen on but not so on this album.

stan and trudy, canada
to all you wishy-washy critics of Confessions, get off your asses and dance! We love you Esther!

peter, cambridge
i love this album, im playing GET TOGETHER like non-stop sice i have the album... this is club-house, hehe...

richard, london
having being let down big time by american life, i have say madonna has pulled it with this one.hung up easily deserves to be number one, classic catchy pop song, however the track that haunted me by its sheer brilliance is 'isaac'her best song in years and confessions will and should probably be her biggest selling record of her career. i was also fotunate enough to catch her live last week for her album promo, and if that performance was anything to go by, then her proposed tour next year will go down a storm. big up madonna.

Geno, California
I have always looked at Ray of Light as her "Pink Floyd, Darkside of the Moon" album. I'd have to admit that I am somewhat disapointed in her new album. Being a musician/recording engineer it sounds very low budget using 95% synth & basic 4/4 beats throughout the entire album. While less moody than her previous album, there is not as much diversity for the people that are getting sick of non-complex beats & typical dance rhythms. All this said, this album is bound to be a forgotten album than another highlight of her career album. I would think that this album would get a (bit)of the club style out of her system and head into an epic piece of artwork that blew "everyone" away using breathtaking film scoring & natural instruments interlaced with electronic wizardry.

Jim Bob, Brighton
American Life was designed as a lo-fi album, and has many a sleeper hit on it. 'Confessions' is a different animal, and a joyous return to Madonna's origins and a deliberate crowd pleaser. She remains a cold hearted innovator and genius plagiarist, and never misses a trick on the new album. The 'dork' lyric is entirely there as an ironic 'bite' at previous critics who have slammed her clunky lyrics, yet people rarely 'get' her. Finally, this isn't the Victorian age. Who says a woman can't rock out and be sexy at 47? It's hardly past it. Ageism is never attractive, no matter what format it takes. Madonna - you GO girl.

Bitter n twisted, London
I like the album, she is a great gal for using other peoples tunes/fashion styles ie pet shop boys/donna summer and miss goldfrapp in the style stakes. Not sure about the leotard, but she proves she is very bendy. Not bad for a bird in her late forties.

Aisha UK
her album is great! all u people who say its bad are very weird MADONNA ROCKS!! there are defaintly some good songs on there that will fill the dance floor at a disco peace out xxxxx

Peter, Philadelphia, USA
REALLY GREAT!! I've always loved electronic music, from Kraftwerk to techno; and this is some of the best electronic music ever. Great beat, great layering of sounds, Madonna's vocals shine: an amazingly feel good album. AWESOME - good work, Madonna!! I'd love to hear more from you in this style in the future.

Fabulous!! Fresh!! Fresh!! Confessions on a dance floor is a great album by the Queen Of Pop, much better than the American Life album in 2003, all the tracks on this album are disco and live ly, no ballads or slowys, Great Album Madge

its good

Madonna can still flog a dead horse, she's starting to sound old which upsets me a little. Another re-invention called for Mrs R! New York has got to be the most rubbish song ever written. People will still buy the album and like me they'll wonder what the fuss was about.

Kate, Helensburgh
Madonna's latest effort is not exactly something to rave about, some very bad/awful lyrics at times. Hung up has got to be the best track on the ablum. No more confessions.

Claire, Nottingham
Confessions is a disappointing return, not very many good tracks which surprises me.

John Australia
A first it took me a while to get used to it.I have been a fan from Hoilday and used to having fav tracks ect ballads Nothing fails ect. From begining to end all songs are really good.A great pop album

alice, croydon
abosolute crap

Ross, Sutton Coldfield
The last 3 Cds were leading up to this. This is Madonna doing what she does best & we love the best! Great One!

Ms Boobies London
can u people shut up American Life was a great album, nobody knows me, nothing fails, american life, die another day are few tracks to mention, and hearing them live at reinvention tour was wicked, you people dont know anything, Confession is also a great album even though the music sounds like heard before music yet still loveable and danceable....

Paul, Lisbon
Not as great as Ray of Light, but still in tune with today's music trends. It is a 100% dance album. So if you're in the mood to dance, you've bought the right album. Forget Britney, Cristina, Kylie, Beyonce and Mariah; Madonna still continues to be the Queen of Pop. No doubt.

David, Newcastle
All I can say is, absolutely awesome dance album! It definitely takes a few listens but gradually the tracks sink in to your consciousness and they won't go away!

Craig, Huddersfield
Fabulous. Best tracks are Hung Up, I Love New York & Push. Much better than American Life.

Rich, Bath
Being a big Madonna fan, I was slightly disappointed by the two albums since Ray Of Light. However, they were still far superior to the output from the likes of Mariah, Britney et al. But Confessions really is a fantastically lightheaded, dizzy and fun album - pure escapism. It takes you on an hour long journey and the multi-layered production gets better with every listen. Well done Madge - still at the top of her game after all this time!

shedeen AL
I LUv Hung up EVERYBODy just listen to it and DANCE!!!!!!!!!

Carel Bitter, The Netherlands
As a dance lover this album is spot-on for me. The opener 'Hung Up' ows much of its brilliance to Abba, but recycling such a recognisable sample without making it cheesy takes a good producer - and obviously Madonna once again found the right guy. The highlights are Isaac, with a both Eastern-European and Arabic flavor, and its smooth transition to the phenomenal Push. This song demands listening it loud on a good soundsystem. Once you get that, the deep, thriving bass will certainly push you onto another level. This in fact goes for most of the songs: it's a dance album, meant for dancefloors and not for easy-listening through a pair of whimsey surround-speakers. Another nice thing are the very subtle references to older Madonna music. Most of these will only be discovered after you've listened the album a few times though. Overall: a very good album, which you'll enjoy for a long time.

Rick, Netherlands
Doesn't anyone agree with me that this is not as good as her previous albums? I mean, it's easy to listen to but it has no catchy chorus's or real stand-outs. Buy U2 or Natalie Imbruglia and listen to some music. Madonna was great at the Ray Of Light era, and I also thought that American life was good (well, the singles were). The song 'Sorry' and 'Hung Up' are still OK, but honestly, they are probably not worth buying the album for. Anyway it is your choice.

Wombat
Awesome.

Shut up - once and for good. For all out there who dare to give bad critic to an "absolute" music idol. Oops she did it again and this time BIG.

Sandy, Bath
I am a huge Madonna fan but I've got to admit that this album is bad. New york is rubbish. I was very excited before buying it and its very much an anticlimax. Poor effort

Peter, UK
This album is a joke. Madonna's worst album to date. Ray of light was a great album, everything since has been bad. She is starting to bore me. Disapointing return. This doesn't deserve to be number one.

John,Deutschland
Fantastic Album, great vibes all dance but also a bit dark! Something between Ray of Light and Erotica one of her best Albums to date.love Hung Up, Sorry, Forbidden Love , Push and Jump and... can't stop Madonna... 10/10

Ron, UK
Excellent album - 10 great songs, 2 ok ones. Some of the lyrics are rather amateurish but doesn't detract from great beats and catchiness. Well worth a listen.

It's fantastic! Much better than "Ray Of Light" and a whole world better than that dismal "American Life". Madonna's done us proud again - don't let us down again! 9/10 for the album (Would have been 10 if she actually said the proper word, not "F off")

Steve and Kerry
We love madonna and this album is fantastic!!

Midwest, America
A washed up Madge doing a little "Bowie". Well there is one Bowie and we shall never see another like him. "Hung Up" sounds like a masochist 18 year old boy singing in his bedroom with ice cubes in tweed pants.

musicploitation
I love Get Together from the album and Tongy played it! Dont you think it sounded a bit like the Golden Girl's Kinetic? Reminds me a bit of Breathe & Stardust too. Wishing its warmer.

Will, London
What has Madonna done!? Queen of Pop no more, this album is awful. Two or three likeable songs but the entire album sucks big style. Bad Madonna - sack the producer.

Ted, NYC
I thought Madonna was a gay icon?! Not with this rubbish, disco drivel. Trust me.

Nikki, Belfast
Queen of Pop my a**! Madonna is getting/sounding OLD. My advice RETIRE and no more publicity stunts to promote this bad attempt of 'music'

Gaz, Liverpool
RUBBISH

Sam, Somerset
Madonna's worst album yet, too much production not enough soul. I know Madge hasn't got the best voice in the world (.... She's no MARIAH) but in previous albums she's sounded way better. 2.5/10

Jake, Leeds
In my opinion there are only two good songs on this album. This is suppose to be her 'Comeback??!!'. Whatever. This makes American Life sound good. Waste of good money

Ollie, London
WARNING: THIS ALBUM MADE MY EARS BLEED!!! Madonna at her worst

Hotlips Vienna
The more I hear the album, the more I love it. A FANTASTIC DANCE ALBUM! Well done madge x

sergio, londres
me encanta madonna. ella otra vez ha excitado el mundo y hizo mucha gente feliz. muchas gracias, reina....

rudy, New York State
Madonna is still the queen of entertainment.

Rachel, USA
It's probably the best pop album I've heard in ages. And if you're athletic like me, it's a lot of fun to work out to! I highly recommend it!

Col K - London
This album is absolutely fantastic, 10/10. Has anyone else noticed that there is a striking simularity between some the backing melodys and the ones in Guy Richies Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells film? The guitars? the reverb?

Barbara, Essex
I loved it!!! I´ve always liked Madonna, eventhough i feel it more like a chillout/dance album, but the tracks are amazing... Push is my favorive one!

staceymelia great britan
i think that this album to listen to it gets you in a good mood and makes you want to dance all night. great one madoona!

John, Manchester
Madonna never fails to deliver. She is the greatest artist of all.... I love MADONNA

Arca
Confessions is another evidence of Madonna's brilliance! 12 killer tracks. Oh believe me, yall gonna dance!

Carlos, London
After the disappointing "American Life," one might have thought, with good reason, that Madonna was out of ideas. By the admission of the lady herself, she informed her record company that she's "tapped out". But then something happened. Like her collaboration wth William Orbit on the phoenix-like "Ray Of Light," Stuart Price just hit a chord with her. But to credit him with all the work is nothing short of unfair, as La Ciccone has this tendency to bring out the best in her collaborators. For further proof, just look at Patrick Leonard's collaborative work with Natalie Imbruglia and Jewel. Enough said. "Confessions On A Dancefloor" is a no-nonsense, kick-you-in-the-head, grab-you-by-the-throat dance album. But it's not all fun and games - the lyrics are still very much Madonna at her most introspective: but, thankfully, it's more "Ray Of Light" than "American Life". In short, she's made the record that all her wannabes, from Gwen to Britney to Kylie, would all want to make but simply can't because, clichéd it may be but it's true: There's only 1 Queen. And judging from the phenomenal chart performance of "Hung Up" and the album, you can rest assured your throne is safe, Mrs. Ritchie.

Lee in London
I love 'Hung UP', 'Sorry', 'Jump and 'Let It Will Be'. I really want to hear these being released as singles. I saw Madonna at G.A.Y. on Saturday and thought the songs work well as performed as live tracks. America Life was brilliant but this is album is even better.

simon, lewes
I'd rather Goldfrapp than Madonna. Constant honking from the forty something queen of fickle.

Paul, Glasgay
Madge is back on form.... she has proved like Kylie they are able to adapt and change to suit there fans and the times. Not since Ray of light have i bought her albums as they were let downs. This has made up for it. your disco needs you DIESELLAD05xxx

Edmund - Belgium
great alum but the 1st half of "Hung up" MTV is abit too much... she can do better then that...one of the shot, her make-up is different toned then her neck...so think..."Hung up" is great, i give 4/5 but MTV, 1/5. In compare to all her other MTV, "hung up" looks like low budget production.

danielle rodgers lisburn ni
i love madonna her music is brillant and her dance moves are the ticket love dani xx

Stacey Conway,Ava
you are all a bunch of freaks you all need to get a grip and madge needs to get lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ghazal,iran
brillant, fantastic and amazing. successfully return from"the Queen of pop"she is the one i love madonna

Sam, Hong Kong
When I first put this on I was blown away by Hung Up but then as I flicked through the tracks the lyrics became more and more dire. I love New York is particularly cringe-worthy. If the instrumental version comes out.....I'd buy that instead

amy walker age 13 manchester
its fantastic but everything is from madonna.

Sparky, London
Well, Mandonna promised an 'UP' album and really and truthfully returns to her New York 80's nightclub roots. The two Pet Shop Boys refrences are just blinding and all the more brilliant for the respectful nod to the pioneers of this kind of music. Not bad for an American bird. I dare say the very talented DJ and producer, Stuart Price (aka les Rythms Digitales and Jacques lu Cont), who also happens to be a Pet Shop Boys fan, had a little something to do with it. The best Madonna album since Ray of Light..... and I didn;'t like the early stuff anyway...sorry

Nicole Hardaker, Liverpool
This album is truly amazing! I honestly haven't been able to take it out of my CD player since Monday! I agree 100% with the original reviewer that it definitely takes the best from Erotica and Ray of Light. It can be listened to ask going out music or chilling music!! It's Ray of Light with a disco beat! Even my Kylie Minogue fan friends are buying it! Her best in years!

Gerald, Cardiff
Despite everything hinting that this was a great record (the great first single, Stuart 'jacques lu cont' Price production, etc), I found myself underwhelmed by it all. I love Madonna, but it simply doesn't live up to the hype. There is also something slightly creepy about seeing a 47 year old, dressed like she is, cavorting around on the dancefloor. Perhaps 3 or 4 singles down the line I might change my mind.

billy england
madonnas new album is pure disco fun all the way ! i think some people have a distorted view when it comes to her lyrics on some songs on this album, its not meant to be serious, just pure fun ! confessions is a great feel good album, 10/10. love & light to y'all ..xx

lasky, singapore
I definitely don't agree with those who think this album sucks.... I think its awesome. can be levelled with ray of light...

Steve, London
Great Album from a true professional and hard nosed businesswoman.

Lee, Palm Springs
I saw the London concert on AOL and couldn't wait to go out and buy the CD, this is the old Madonna at her best, really like the CD and it's going to be the hit of the clubs. Got the CD and it's playing over and over and over.

darren flood
After hearing 'hung up' and all the comments on 70's infused futuristic disco I was expecting a danceable gay album instaed you find so much more. 'sorry', 'issac' and 'jump' all scream classics and 'i love new york' is sure to be a dancefloor filler. The most commercial album she's made? yes. the best? without a doubt. This album is aimed at anybody who can move a limb to music, and move you it does. Reign on Madonna, you are loved!

laurent Paris
crap of course. She doesn't even know to play piano or sing. And you call her a singer ! crap always more crap. So tiring !

me n ma m8
ace im gunna rock down to electric avenue!!!

Jude, Kent
Very up to date and fresh as usual! I was addicted from tract 1. Its an excellent use of her old sounds that I think has really pleased her die hard fans who can no doubt pick out the familiar bits from the past! My fav is 'push'. Madonna rock on.....

Adam Birmingham
There are some very catchy songs on the albumn. Sorry and Forbidden Love are an excellent return to true pop. They are sure to be number 1's. As for the rest of the albumn- The dance music will grab you before her lyrics do, and before you know you are enjoying all of it. Excellent comeback- she is tyring to appeal to a wider and younger audience this time.

Sam, London
Great she can still stir things up and make good music to dance to. I love Hung Up, however the album didn't get me up as much as the first track...

Jay Uliano
Madonna is back. She puts out a "thoughtful" album (american life) and you people critize it. She puts out a bass-pounding dance album (Confessions) and you people critize it. Shut up already! Let her follow her heart. I love the album.

Danny, Thailand
It's great album!!!She did a good job. You can see how fit she is. I can't believe how strong she is.Dance...Dance and Dance....Love it.....

Chris, London
Just Pure AMAZING!

matthew, loftus
OMFG this is the best album i ahve heard in years. she is a agy boys dreams. nuber 3 is the best song in the world. i lve her and the album

tel from london
shades of abba iI think....!

Seyi, Lagos
Everyones entitled to fair comment, but if fair comment is "dull" or "not as good as Like A Virgin" well to the former ace reviewer I say it must take something close to making a bungee jump off Everest to get you excited and to the latter- try to find some crazed scientist who has perfected time travel to hook you up; destination: 1985 prefrably! Confessions on dancefloor is not a cure for Aids, and shock horror its lyrics dont contain any pointers to the secret of eternal youth, but as a brilliant bit of dance escapology, well it fair rocks! Get your hands on a copy of Confessions now... oh thats if you appreciate great dance music of course. Wait a minute I think the same applies even if you dont! I promise you wont be dissapointed contrary to what some less than fair comment would have you believe.

Matthew London
Absolutely loving this album. rom the ouset it doesn't let up. Its what all dance music should be, uplifting, fun and non-stop beats. All the tracks are great, can't wait for the remixes to start appearing. Not took it off the ipod all week. Sheer brilliance.

Darren, Manchester
This is what we love from Madonna, pure sexy disco that makes you wanna crank up the volume and love it! Monster of an album that deserves all the praise from critics and the public alike. Her best album in years and proves she is still Queen of the dancefloor...

Dave, Boston, U.S
Great album! Fun and uplifting, we need this type of music in today's war filled world. And to all the "Madonna haters", please get a life!!!

Helen, Bristol
Madonna is getting lazy in her OLD age, no effort in this album at all. Hung up is catchy but the lryics are tripe just like this ablum. Rating it is pointless.

Ben, Neath
CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP

Jake, Cardiff
The album doesn't deserve the praise it's getting, so much hype, not enough effort. Shocking. If only I kept the receipt.....

César, Mexico City
Hung Up's been released just few days ago and I'm mad at it already, she's right when she says its the most commercial thing.

alizeh lahore pakistan
worship it, that`s an order! ISAAC`s my fav. !!!!!!!

Patrick, Danbury, CT USA
I've been listening to "Madge" as you Brits call her since I was 13 back in 1983 and her song Holiday came out in America. She still has her style and unique feelings and it shows w/Confessions. My fave songs are Isaac, Get Together, Future Lovers and Forbidden Love(which by the way she should have called it Forbidden Love Part 2 as conclusion to her 1994 Bedtime Story's track). Rock on Madonna!

Slind, Bournemouth
I really didn't want to listen to this, not being a Madonna fan in any way shape or form but I was forced to by my sis. So what did I think... well.... is this really Madonna? Erm..... I quite liked it.... yep... this is really rather good...

Brian, Aberdeen
A fantastic album with not one weak track. Fulfilling to the highest degree. Miss out at your peril.

Albert Zutphen (Holland)
Outstanding production and Madonna's voice is made for it. Combine that whit great tracks, how can she sound so fresh after al those years? A new level in popmusic, dripping!

Jon, Dartford
When did Madonna last strut her "funky thing" on the dancefloor. I think she is looking back in time and should of developed a more forward thinking album (along the same lines as Ray Of Light)

Janelle
I have been listening to Madonna since the beginning and I think this album along with Ray of Light are her best works yet! I love "Push"- great song!

Michael Porter...GA, USA
This is a revival of the mystic and phenomenal way that Madonna brings forth something completely fresh, yet hauntingly apocryphal. Like a fine Chateau Petrus, she has matured in pure ''liquid'' artistic ecstacy. "Sorry" haunts my soul and stirs me in a manner more profoundly than any of her work extant. Her vision is extraordinary.

James, Herts
Very good return to form. Many are calling in main stream. I don't think so it is relects well on current trends in dance music. Shame the track Isaac made it past the cutting floor the rest of the album is very good.

Tommy, Swansea Marina
Since when did having three good tracks (the first three) make a great album. The genuis in this album is it's marking, and unfortunately, not the songs - many of which are positivley child-like and lack direction.

Craig, Burton
Fantastic this album deserves to be number one i love it from start to finish you start with a wicked track and its just carries on through the album loving the feel of the whole album and it will be in my cd player while im gettin ready to go out to get me in the mood the Queen of pop is back and is goin no where for a while

GDN
Not as good as Like a Virgin

Colin, Barcelona
A long awaited return to the dance floor for me. Can't wait to get back out there and strut my stuff with this fab album. Well done Madonna, you've made the correct choice by going back to your roots.

Pat - London
I was caught off guard with this since I was expecting something a bit more Goldfrapp for some reason, however I think its a superb album (although 'I Love New York' has some excruiatingly bad lyrics), the rest of it is incredibly catchy and retro disco, Brilliant!!!

tenzin,delhi
its a fantastic mix of wonderful songs n its a melody to listen.......

Max Bednarski
Amazing!!! loved all tracks! Madonna is BACK and she did a great job with this new album! It's playing now and PUT THE VOLUME TO THE MAX AND JUMP AND DANCE!!!

gazz, Belfast
A fantastic musical journey from start to finish. There isn't 1 track you will want to skip. It's totally seamless, totally upbeat, all in all totally brilliant. This is as good as pop dance music gets. MADONNA, I thankyou for the music!!!!!!!!!!!!

kieran southend
great return from madonna needs to be played very loud to enjoy it fully, love sorry, forbidden love and jump. deserves to be a number 1

jill sussex
brillant album and one of her best madoona is back hung up is her best single since music

Justyna,Poland
Well, Kate Bush's album is a triumph of a heart, Madonna's record is a triumph of a mind."Confession on..." is like A.I. Artificial intelligence in music?I don't mind. But only on this one album.I can find there emotions, but I can't find true Madonna's voice. It disapear completle in this melting pot of mixing sounds. PS this comparison...Mrs. Bush and Madonna.I know,I shouldn't...

Damon, Nottingham
This album is magnificent from start to finish. A marked improvement on American Life, which was very poor indeed. In fact. Confessions... is a masterpiece to rival Ray Of Light & Like A Prayer. This is my album of the year by a mile, beating Coldplay & Kate Bush, whom I had reviewed the previous week. Like Kylie, Madonna has the wit to using the right producers for every album project in her 20+ year career, and always did things to aplomb. On this time, she used Stuart Price (aka. Jacque Lu Cont). Like William Orbit & Mirwais, he has shaped her music & outlook on life in every shape & form. May this this long success continue.

Ricky , London
Not a bad album... a few good tracks like hung up, get together, sorry, push and jump, but i think she took the dance vibe a bit too far i would like to have heard some classic pop tracks. p.s what happened to the duet with Outkasts Andre 3000 i was really looking forward to that one!

star, liverpool
i really love it!It's inspirational and i'd recommend it to anyone in the world it's out of this world even!

Ben, London
Absolutely fantastic pounding disco-trash. Welcome the hell back to the First Lady of Gay.

luca Rome Italy
yes it strats as a shock then goes on faster and faster to pure Joy..highlights are Forbidden love, Push, Jump,How high and let it will be...and sorry but I don't like "Sorry"...she's th e Queen of Pop...no doubt

Gilbyplumb, Leeds
The Madonna is again making the gay dicso records for nightclub, the party and the sauna and even if she has birthed the 2 children and married the posh film maker with the mockney voice and hot chest muscles she is still being the same girl who performed the felatio on the big bottle in the film and flirted with the hot gay dancers. I am being pleased with this so much, no more making the politics records please Madonna, you cannot being the revolutionary in those hotpants and high heels honey, you'll be breaking your fingernails. Throw some glitter on that chip on your shoulder girlfriend and dance baby. The gays are forgiven you for American Life.

Paul, Brighton
A much better album than "American Life" although I felt it wasn't as dancefloor friendly as i'd hoped - it's a bit plodding in places. "Hung Up" and "Push" are great though. "Push" is old school Madonna, brilliantly sung with great lyrics. "Forbidden love" is another fave.

Edward, UK
The album is rather disappointing. It's formulaic and extremely dull. There are highlights (Sorry, Ho High), but the album does not deserve all the praise it's been getting. It's far from a classic Madonna album. American Life may have been her least loved album, but at least it was edgy and a bit experimental. It was never really dull like Confessions.

Chris Butler, Nottingham
Phenomenal album. This is one hell of a confession! "The" Madonna Is Back(!)

Josie, Cardiff
Awesome - not one bad track. I love it already. Play it loud - it's even better.

Mike, London
I didn't want to use the phrase "A fine return to form", but I can think of no other that is more accurate. By no means her best album, it is however one of her most immediate, especially when compared to her last two. It's the Queen of Pop doing Pop as it should be done in 2005. Highly recommend it.
