Introduction The Archives are a collection of material held to promote and preserve the history of engineering and technology. The collections contain a range of unique manuscript and published works on the history and development of science, engineering and technology, dating as far back as the 14th century. Collections cover subjects from mathematics to medicine, acoustics to optics, telegraphy to radar to name a few. It also preserves the archival records of the Institution's 130-year history, including the records from the IEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers), IERE (Institution of Electronic annd Radio Engineers), IProdE (Institution of Production Engineers) and the recently aquired records from the IIE (Institution of Incorporated Engineers). How to use this site By using the navigational menu on the left you will be able to access our online catalogue and find out more about the collections. The Institution's History section contains information about the Institution, its members, past presidents and medallists. There is also an index to obituaries of former IEE members. For the history of technology or to find more information on famous people see our Biographies and Features section. This includes our online exhibitions with images and information on popular subjects. More detailed information on specific topics such as family history, women in engineering, telegraphy and lighting are dealt with in our Research Guides. Exciting news! The IET Library and Archives has been awarded Designated Status from the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA). The Designation of the Archives and Rare Books collections has been recognised as being of outstanding national and international importance in the fields of science, engineering and technology.
