SUGAR (Sydney University Geomechanics Application and Research)

At this site the Sydney University Geomechanics Application and Research (SUGAR) suite of computer programs is described. The programs are written in Visual Basic, Fortran and C and have been developed and are supported by several authors. They are all fully operational on the IBM-PC.

User manuals are available for each of the programs. These manuals describe the problem the program is capable of addressing; the theoretical background of the solution procedure (where applicable); the input data required and the output generated. Demonstration versions of the programs are available for some of the programs.

The programs have been developed in the Centre for Geotechnical Research (CGR) within the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Sydney.

Notes

Download Programs and Manuals

  • If you download a program that you do not have a licence for then the program will only run in demonstration mode.
  • The manuals are in Adobe's PDF format. Some of the manuals are password protected files and the password is the name of the program, e.g. the password for "Stares.pdf" is "stares".
  • "Stares.zip" contains the product; "manStares.zip" contains the manual.
  • The latest changes to the programs are documented in the "What's New" section in the help files.

Student versions

  • Student versions are available for several programs. There are restrictions imposed that are not present in the commercial versions of these programs. However, the restrictions are not considered too severe and therefore these versions should be useful for teaching purposes. There is no charge for using these versions and you may distribute them freely to your students.
  • These versions are only to be used for teaching and must not be used for commercial work.
