Tips on Finding a Lawyer

• Contact your local bar association they have lists of lawyers and their specialties.
• Get more than one recommendation for a lawyer and consult them all so that you can be comfortable and confident in who is representing you.
• Always ask about fees in advance and if affording a lawyer is an issue you can contact your local legal aid office. (They may be able to provide assistance to those that qualify free of charge or based on a sliding fee scale)
• Always go prepared to your lawyer's office and keep your original documents
• Find out much experience in domestic violence the lawyer has and what is their record in court
• Don't be afraid to ask questions – they are working for you!
