Human Rights First seeks a Program Assistant for the Government Affairs Department (GA).  Based in the Washington, DC office s/he will provide legislative and administrative support to the Senior Associate for Government Affairs for each program area (Refugee Protection; Law and Security; and International).

Primary responsibilities will include:

Administrative

* Managing the infrastructure of the department.  This requires managing administrative and financial paperwork for the department, photocopying, coordinating meetings for the department and other duties which include but are not limited to:
* Maintaining the GA calendar.
* Database maintenance; program e-mail; faxing and photocopying.
* Organizing and maintaining electronic and paper files.

* Assisting with editing copy for the web site & intranet. Creation and review of copy for the Government Advocacy program webpage & intranet, contact database, and in general, coordinating with the technology, communications, and finance departments as required.

* Research.  Conduct background research on members of Congress Executive Branch officials for targeting advocacy efforts; Obtain written reports, lecture transcripts, audio tapes, books and other pertinent informational materials from Federal and private sources.
 
* Communications and Campaigning.  Coordinate development of e-advocacy capacity.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

* College degree;
