Design Director
MSNBC.com is seeking a journalist, master web designer and experienced manager to lead our art department. It’s a big job with an enormous audience. Can you teach the staff advanced CSS, guide breaking news infographics in Flash, as well as write an updated style guide and enforce it on a site that grows everyday—all at the same time? Show us what you’ve got with a portfolio website that proves you have the highest standards of quality and are focused on usability.

At MSNBC.com, we’re creating a culture of innovation. Help us continually update and redesign the site and coordinate original, made-for-the-web features. Set artistic direction, design web features and review and approve all design work. This is a fast-paced hands-on job, so jump in and lead our highly talented and experienced team by example.

The job requires 5+ years of design management and journalism experience, as well as at least 3 years working exclusively in web design. Expert-level skills in CSS/HTML, Photoshop and Illustrator are also required. Advanced knowledge of Flash, animation, or 3D graphics is strongly desired. The most successful candidates will have experience working full time for a top-tier online news organization. An online portfolio of work demonstrating innovative user interfaces, page designs and graphics is strongly recommended. This position is located in the Seattle area.

Interactive Editor
Are you skilled in telling stories through innovation with user interface design, web programming, sophisticated graphic design, and photo/video/audio editing?  Work directly with the Web's most experienced writers, editors, media producers and designers to create engaging, interactive and information-packed applications for all sections of the site.  Build interactive graphics and multimedia packages for news features and daily news production.  Assist in building prototypes for new content formats, site features or editorial tools.  Provide input on design aesthetics and usability of interactive content.

Requires 2+ years experience with a top-tier online news organization and 2+ years of hands-on experience with Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, media editing tools, and other web programming languages. Requires expert-level programming skills with ActionScript; an advanced knowledge of other web programming technologies including XHTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript and AJAX; usability and user interface design sensibilities; experience with content management systems; demonstrated news judgment; ability to multi-task; desire to work within a team environment. Experience in broadcast or print a plus. May be required to work weekends or extended shifts.  Position is located in our Redmond, WA facility.

Web Producer, Dateline
Manage and enhance the Dateline NBC website, working with broadcast personnel to create content that adds value to TV stories, engages viewers and provides strong editorial matter for the MSBNC.com cover.   Grow and nurture relationships w/ NBC News personnel and represent interests of MSNBC.com in editorial and operations meetings; innovate ways to expand and improve the Dateline franchises for on-demand, interactive Web environment. 

Requires at least 3-5 years work experience in journalism; experience with content management tools (publishing and blogs) preferred but not required;  strong computer skills and comfort with familiar software tools (e.g., MS Office applications).  Requires familiarity with TV news production; good writing, research, copy-editing, and story-telling skills; a strong grasp of journalism principles and an enthusiasm for both TV and the Internet.  Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required.  Candidate must have an understanding of emerging technologies and online trends, and must enjoy collaboration.  Appreciation for Dateline’s broad range of reporting topics– from potential online predators, crime, celebrity, and consumer reports-- is necessary. Must also have a flexible schedule for breaking news situations and other live events.  Position is located in our NYC location.

Primary responsibility is to design and develop quality projects and processes in an n-tier environment.  This includes creating and reviewing functional and design specifications, writing and reviewing C# and SQL code, working closely with program managers, testers, and other business teams, debug and analyze software code, troubleshoot and resolve issues relating to production systems.

Requirements include a strong sense of customer empathy, awesome SQL database architectural and development skills, advanced C# programming skills and knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle, excellent creativity, outstanding written and verbal skills, and an exceptional ability to communicate effectively with partners inside and outside of MSNBC.
