MSNBC is a groundbreaking joint venture from Microsoft and NBC, comprised of MSNBC TV on cable and MSNBC.com on the Internet. The MSNBC concept means that both television viewers and personal-computer users will benefit from a service that offers truly integrated television and interactive news, quality breaking news coverage and dynamic discussion of topical events.

Leading off the primetime lineup is “Tucker,” 4 and 6 p.m. (ET), with Tucker Carlson. MSNBC’s highly acclaimed political program, “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” follows, 5 and 7 p.m. (ET).  “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” at 8 p.m. (ET) counts down the day’s top stories with Keith’s own inimitable blend of wit and style. At 9 p.m. (ET), Joe Scarborough gives viewers the real deal on “Scarborough Country.”

Whenever and wherever news breaks, MSNBC is on the scene, with a team of anchors and correspondents including Lester Holt, Chris Jansing, Natalie Morales, Alex Witt, Contessa Brewer, Alison Stewart and Amy Robach. MSNBC uses the newsgathering resources of NBC News and NBC’s more than 200 affiliated stations to offer viewers the highest-quality news coverage, 24 hours a day.

Weekends, MSNBC telecasts continuing live news coverage as well as long-form documentaries, including “MSNBC Investigates,” “MSNBC Reports”; and “Headliners & Legends.”

Launch Date: MSNBC and MSNBC.com launched Monday, July 15, 1996.

Distribution: 82 million U.S. television households. Select MSNBC programming is also seen internationally through Orbit TV, CNBC Asia, MSNBC Canada, Hotelevision and The Armed Forces Network.  MSNBC is carried on XM Satellite Radio, channel 130. MSNBC.com is accessible through any computer with Internet access on the World Wide Web at http://www.msnbc.msn.com. The service is free to computer users.

Programming and Content: MSNBC uses the newsgathering resources of NBC News and NBC’s more than 200 affiliated stations to offer viewers the highest-quality 24-hour schedule of news. MSNBC is also committed to providing the best reporting available on TV and provides a platform for talk and discussion of local issues. NBC affiliates around the country provide coverage and have the option of providing their own local news and information inserts.

MSNBC on the Internet is a general news and information Web site covering world and national affairs. MSNBC on the Internet creates more original journalism for the Internet medium than any other news organization and represents the most significant effort anywhere to marry the newsgathering capabilities of a worldwide broadcast and cable news organization and the Internet. The result is an integrated news product with interactive and multimedia elements offering the best synergy of television and the Internet available in the world.

Management: Under the joint venture agreement of NBC and Microsoft, NBC News maintains editorial control over the content of both MSNBC TV and MSNBC on the Internet. NBC News manages MSNBC TV; Microsoft and NBC jointly manage MSNBC on the Internet.
