News and Updates

Project ZEAL Prologue and Writers' Bible Released
Project ZEAL was a collaborative fan fiction project undertaken in 2004. Written by an all-star cast of Compendium regulars, the work spanned over forty scenes before the project was abandoned. The plot of the story was simple -- in a different dimension, Zeal never fell, and its resulting blossoming in science and magic allowed it to meddle with other dimensions, often unethically and with disastrous results to the test worlds. Well, they've knocked on the door of the Keystone Dimension, and Gaspar isn't too happy. He's rounding up a band of new heroes to combat the agents of ZEAL (the Zeal from a different dimension) and eventually overthrow the civilization altogether. Though the project was abandoned, the scenes written carried it through the prologue, introducing several characters and taking them to the End of Time. The Writers' Bible also explains much about future plans for ZEAL and juicy details concerning the civilization's organization and culture. To immerse yourself in this unique fan-created Chrono world, read this feature.

Speedrun Pages Finished; Monolith Soft Buyout
I may have another update coming soon, but I need to get these off my chest. Firstly, the Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross speedrun pages are both finished thanks to the help of inichi and Molotov, respectively. If you want to know the secrets of blazing through Trigger in three and a half hours, or through Chrono Cross in a few minutes over seven hours, check them out. There's also some neat game play information and techniques; it's a refreshingly new experience if you've never seen this type of thing before. [ Chrono Trigger Page - Chrono Cross Page ] Secondly, Gamehiker has brought it to our sheltered attention that Monolith Soft was recently bought out by Nintendo, which now owns 80% of the company. As you know, Nintendo and Square have been working together to release Final Fantasy spinoffs and ports / remakes. Don't get hasty, but cross your fingers; Monolith Soft still retains some members of the Chrono Cross team, and perhaps Square will shoot a Chrono idea Nintendo's way. With Masato Kato involved with both companies, we can't lose.

Fan Projects Update: Logo Contest Winner!
And the winner is...

Fortis! Thank you to all of you who submitted an entry. It was a tough decision.

Congratulations to Fortis for his awesome entry. The background of the logo will pan, so we'll also have an animated logo.

CT Unglued 13, Sakaguchi Comment, PS3 Woes
Episode 13 of Chrono Trigger Unglued is available here; Cryokinetic is still missing in action as Clovis does a sweet job. Hironobu Sakaguchi, the famed Dream Team member and Final Fantasy creator, remarked in an EGM Vol. 216 interview that Blue Dragon is an extension of Chrono Trigger. I guess it is in the Dragon Quest vein, concerning happy quests and things, because Zeal and Masato Kato's direction differ from that kind of thing. Lastly, someone on Gamefaqs has attempted Chrono Cross on the PlayStation 3 and notes that the game freezes after the final boss. Call it a victim of failure in reverse compatibility. Kutaragi has stepped down and Sony is mounting over a billion in losses for its video game division, so times are dark for this console series.

Yu 'inichi' Morimoto Achieves New Chrono Trigger Speed Record
Inichi has blown the previous record, standing at five hours, to smithereens with his three hour run. Utilizing strategy right out of Crono's bed, he managed to defeat Lavos before acquiring the Epoch. Next, he sent his video-taped run across the Pacific ocean to the United States, where it was verified and hosted at the Speed Demos Archive. Download the run here. Speaking of speedruns, with the aid of Molotov I've created an up to date page on Chrono Cross, including his latest route list and other techniques and notes. Find it here. Now that inichi's run is released, I'll use his segment notes to shape the Chrono Trigger Speedrun page and ask any other relevant questions.

Fan Projects Update: Chrono Trigger - Time's Illusion Update!
Well, as you all know, this project has been in development for some time now, but was halted for a few months due to school work.  But after a long while, we've been kicking it back into gear hugely and are trying to get a demo released as soon as possible!  The date we are hopefully setting is the middle of summer or the end of it, due to all the graphics hacking, music hacking, and tech hacking that we have to do.  But anyways, here's some screenshots that we have.

- The picture, i'm not sure who made it, but I am greatly indepth for whoever made it.

Also, there's an IPS patch posted.  It replaces Lucca with Schala a bit.  Her walking in all direction is done, and her running front is done.  MUST HAVE AN UNHEADERED ROM.  Feel free to leave any comments and criticism.  That is all for now =)

Fan Projects Update: Chrono Crisis Logo Contest
Welcome to the official Chrono Crisis logo contest! The other team members and I have decided that it's high time we had the logo design finalized. We know what we want, but we currently have no one to make it for us.

That's where you guys come in. There will be no prize, other than the satisfaction of your work being used as the logo of our amazing game. XD

I want the "C" of the logo to be very ornate, and for the logo to look very dark, to stress the deeper and darker storyline.

For example, the C should look something like this:

Though you can feel free to take creative license and try out different things.

Rules

There is no limit on the number of submissions you can send in, but your submission must be colored with Photoshop, a similar program, or be very high quality. If you use Photoshop, send in a PSD format of the file, and whatever is similar to that with the other programs so that we can use the logo to it's full potential for whatever we please.

Deadline

As stated in the topic description, the deadline will be Saturday, April 28, 2007. You can send in your submission whenever you complete it, but we must have it by the deadline.

Send your submissions to me in a PM labeled "CC Logo Contest."

Ready... Get set... Go!

Prerelease, Cross Demo, and Other Updates
With Temporal Flux 2.55, I have gone through the Prerelease to improve upon a few maps from 2004 in our Prerelease section. I found a few things of note along the way. Specifically, here's the link list -- Zeal Dungeon (new small room), Sunken Desert (incomplete maps), Singing Mountain (extra exterior / interior map), Forest Ruins (aha, a door rose up!), Mt. Woe (Giga Gaia had a strange torso), and the Lavos Core (see the pod without the sprite). Getting to other items of business, I've uploaded the rip of the music from the Chrono Cross demo to our servers; find it here. Next, Molotov decoded the meaning of the Chrono Cross enemy Robo Ducky's Japanese name (SABLOW). It's a pun on "sable" (Japanese cookie often in the firm of a bird) and "saburo" (a popular Japanese name). Molotov asked inichi, the Chrono Trigger speed run master, for this information. Speaking of which, the Chrono Trigger record has been shattered! However, a full update will be postponed until his VHS reaches the states and is uploaded. Finally, discussion is under way concerning the creation of a playable patch for the Chrono Trigger retranslation. An announcement will be made once the project is underway. That's it for now!
