Centre County and the University may have to find a new place to dump their trash.
 
Undergraduate Student Government President Mark Stewart said he has mixed feelings about the pay increases University employees will be receiving in October.
 
As renewed state funding begins trickling into Centre County, officials say they might not use money from a loan -- saving taxpayers thousands of dollars in interest.
 
The Undergraduate Student Government's first away-game ticket sale is providing 48 students with the chance to watch the Penn State football team play Georgia Tech in the Kick-off Classic at the Meadowlands in New Jersey tonight.
 
Phi Kappa Theta's national board of trustees suspended the University chapter's charter for alcohol policy violations, a Phi Kappa Theta national representative said Monday.
 
Last year Duane Thomas labored as a logger. Today he is hitting the books and attending classes as a 30-year-old University student to be retrained in a new field due to an injury.
 
The Dialysis Unit for Penn State University enabled Steve Katona to work toward his dream of a doctoral degree in rehabilitation education. But future University students suffering from kidney disease may not get the same chance.
 
If students think a tuition increase is the only financial woe they will be forced to cope with this year, they can think again. Some students will also encounter the added burden of rising costs for class materials -- namely course packets.
 
Through the years, financial aid has not kept up with the rate of tuition increments, leaving many who need aid out in the cold.
 
Tight University and state budgets are not only threatening student services, but also causing some disagreement among student and administrative budget officals here.
 
The race for the Pennsylvania Senate seat between Dick Thornburgh, state governor for two terms, and incumbent Sen. Harris Wofford may get dirty, said U.S. Rep. William F. Clinger Jr. yesterday at a news conference in the Atherton Hilton, 125 South Atherton St.
 
U.S. Sen. Harris Wofford accepted an invitation yesterday to debate expected opponent Richard Thornburgh at the University.
 
 
SPORTS
 
New NCAA legislation will force the men's tennis team to face its first match after only 12 days of practice.
 
Considering that Penn State originally wasn't even going to be playing in this year's Kickoff Classic, tonight's game looms awfully large in the Lions' hopes for a national championship.
 
No. 7 Penn State knows what it is like to play in the Kickoff Classic as the defending national champion. Tonight at Giants Stadium, No. 8 Georgia Tech will have the same experience.
 
Yesterday, while talking to a freshman gymnast, Penn State's men gymnastic's coach Karl Schier learned something new. But, as Schier looks at it, he always learns something new.
 
After a harsh 10 days of practice and finding the players who can make the grade, the soccer team has started assembling the parts and looking toward its opener, Sept. 6, against St. Louis.
 
At Linebacker U., conversation about the defense' begins and ends with that unit. This season, however, the Penn State secondary is on the hunt for respect -- from opponents and fans alike.
