No - its not Live performances form the Festivals, just album tracks from bands that played at them in 2007.

Like other reviewers, I was under the impression that this album would contain live recordings, especially when I saw the words 'Festival Edition' on the right-hand side of the cover, but it doesn't, these are all the studio versions. Nevertheless, 'The Essential Bands' is still an excellent two-disc collection of some of the most popular indie-rock tracks of the time, capturing the essence of a 'festival' in 2007. The line-up speaks for itself - there's The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, Razorlight, Muse and Keane etc...

Here we have 40 great hits from some of the biggest bands that played out in festivals (and many continue to do so), as well as a few that I'd virtually forgotten. Just as you'd expect from a 'NME' compilation, the magazine's compilers have put together an awesome playlist. This is great music for the Summer, whatever the year!

'Festival edition' can be misleading as a title but i can confirm this is not a live cd as the title might suggest but in fact 40 studio recordings on a double cd.

What NME are trying to recapture is the highlight of every music fans summer of 2007,some whilst sat in a tent in a field somewhere jabbering away to a load of new friends at 3am on a Sunday morning whilst wearing the same jeans for four days, whilst others merely watching, cans in hand, various festivals being beamed across television screens back at home.

Like a lot of compilation cds you will come across music you love, for me that is the likes of Razorlight, The Killers, Keane ect, music you won't like, Enter Shikari!!! and music you are so glad you stumbled across like The View, The Cribs and The Automatic.

Wherever you where during that summer of 2007, NME proudly boasts that this is the soundtrack to the best summer of your life so treasure it.
