Life on the road directly told by artists in the midst of touring.
The Academy Is...
Today is another day off! We are spending it at Cedar Point, which is a theme park. I heard it's great but we haven't gotten there yet! Sandusky, OH is where we are! Last night we played in New Jersey; the show was fantastic. It was almost a full house by the time we got up to play!
Once we arrived to the New York area, we took a van to the MTV studios. All the bands on the tour did TRL that day. It was a lot of fun. It was kind of like hanging out with your school friends at another school! TRL went pretty well.
Then, we went back to Jones Beach to get ready to play the show. It was Pete Wentz's birthday, so the whole show, people were wishing Pete a happy birthday except for Mark Hoppus, who, as a birthday gift to Pete, ran off stage, took Pete's bass, and threw it on the ocean at Jones Beach! It was pretty funny. You can check out the footage
here. Then they went into "Dammit," a Blink 182 song, that pretty much summed up the soundtrack to every school party I ever went to!!
That night, we all headed to Angels and Kings, which is a nice nightclub we always wind up at when in NYC. We used the opportunity to shoot some footage for a new video we are working on. It was nice to relax for a few hours, but the 5 of us had it in the back of our minds that we will be waking up soon to do the AOL Sessions. So, one by one, we started leaving once it hit 3 a.m.
In the morning, we woke up nice and early to record at AOL Sessions, through which we won their music breakers competition a few weeks ago. Big thanks to our fans who voted for us! The sessions went well. We did 3 songs: "Neighbours," "Everything We Had" and a song called "Creep" by Stone Temple Pilots. It was nice to cover a song by them because they were a huge influence on me, growing up.
I would say that I probably covered more STP songs than any other band; the Foo Fighters would be a close second. It's a crazy thought: being in bands at age 16 and playing an STP song at a big party that may reach 100 people I considered myself lucky, but the AOL Sessions or even the Smashing Pumpkins cover we did for MySpace will be heard by a lot more people. Hopefully, we will turn young people onto the better part of the '90s because at the moment, the '90s seem to only be known for rap, metal... Creed, and a few other bands!
Someone stole Victoria from Cobra Starship's sidekick last night. So if you stole it, not cool and you should give it back! Don't go through girls' bags!
We had a Wal-Mart stop a few days ago. Wal-Mart was one of the first stores I went to when I came to America. It was the biggest thing I ever saw! It's like a city! You can't see the back wall from the cash register! Anyways, we stopped in and for $20 I picked up the "Michael J Fox Collection". I love Michael J Fox! William bought "Terminator 2" and Sisky bought "Apocolypto", which he said was great. I might watch it tonight. I tell you what, we all went and saw "Pirates of the Caribbean 3" the other nigh and when I say "all" I mean all 11 of us. Only 5 of us made it to the end of the 3-hour film! It was a little confusing to be honest; I just wanted to see Keith Richards in a movie! He was only in it for about 2 minutes! Sorry to disappoint anyone who hasn't seen it!
The response to our shows has been overwhelming so far. At the last 4 or 5 shows, the crowd has been so good it makes me want to go hug everyone in the audience who know every word to every song! We have also been doing signings every night after playing and they have been so out of control; hundreds and hundreds of people lining up.
We just missed the shuttle to the theme park! I have to go! We are going to work out what to do! I can see a Wal-Mart from my bus window! I'm sure I will make another run before we leave here!
