Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) founded the Fund for a Democratic Majority in 1981 after the election of President Ronald Reagan in 1980, and it was renamed the Committee for a Democratic Majority in 1995. Its principal goal today is to support and expand the Democratic majority in the Senate and House of Representatives.
The new Democratic majority in Congress is committed today to making long-needed progress for our nation and its people on key issues such as homeland security, the economy, education, health care, energy, civil rights, and the rights of working families.
But this effort isn't just about the Democratic majority in Washington, DC --it's about the Democratic majority in all 50 states across the country. People like you everywhere are ready, willing, and able to stand up and make a difference.
In the election last November, the American people said they wanted change—and they meant it. They went to the polls, rejected the rubber-stamp, Republican Congress, replaced it with our own Democratic majority, and they've asked for an honest, open and accountable government that works for everyone.
That responsibility falls on each of us. We made a solemn promise to serve the people's agenda, and now we must work together to fulfill it.
I need your support to win this battle for America's future. Your ideas, your opinions, your especially your participation can keep the pressure on to advance our agenda, and help us build on our progress so far in electing more Democrats to strengthen our majority in 2008.
