Hudson Index: Industry Sector Summary

Worker confidence across five of seven industry sectors, as measured by the monthly Hudson Employment Index (SM), fell in August 2007, with the biggest drop shown among Hispanics. The group’s Index took a ten point plunge, registering at 93.0. That’s the lowest reading among the industry sectors last month.

After rebounding in July, confidence among information technology workers declined seven and a half points to 105.1. Accounting and finance workers have experienced a roller coaster ride of confidence so far this year. This month, the sector’s Index dropped seven points to 113.1.

Healthcare workers felt less confident in August. Their Index fell six and a half points to 103.9. Finally, confidence among manufacturing workers slipped nearly three points to 85.1.

Meanwhile, African-American workers felt more confident last month; its Index rose almost three points to 93.2. Finally, despite turmoil in the economy, legal workers confidence rose nearly a point in August to 118.6. The legal field currently maintains the highest reading among the seven industry sectors.
