What We Fund
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provides grants for projects
in the United States and U.S. territories that advance our mission
to improve the health and health care of all Americans.
1. Eligible Organizations
While we have supported several types of organizations, we give preference to ones that are public agencies, public charities or are tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
2. Eligible Locations
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provides grants for projects in the United States and its territories.
3. Areas of Health and Health Care We Support
We support projects that advance our mission to improve the health and health care of all Americans.
We currently support projects in the following Program Areas:

- Pioneer 2
- Public Health 1
- Quality/Equality 1
- Vulnerable Populations 2

We aim to fund innovative projects that can have measurable impact and can create meaningful change, such as:
- Service demonstrations
- Gathering and monitoring of health-related statistics
- Public education
- Training and fellowship programs
- Policy analysis
- Health services research
- Technical assistance
- Communications activities
- Evaluations

The majority of our grants are awarded in response to calls for proposals issued throughout the year.

6. Grants Awarded from Unsolicited Proposals
In addition to issuing calls for proposals, three Program AreasBuilding Human Capital, Pioneer and Vulnerable Populationsaccept unsolicited proposals not specifically addressed through our CFPs but which support the objectives outlined in these three Program Areas.
