A group of former Technicolor execs is launching PostWorks Los Angeles, a postproduction company with the same independent ownership as PostWorks in New York.

The West Coast operation is being planned to offer high-end digital-imaging services for features films and television and will be managed by a group of post executives who had parted ways with Technicolor at various points during the past 18 months.

These include PostWorks L.A. president Mike Doggett, former president of postproduction at Technicolor Content Services, who is now a partner in the PostWorks businesses; senior vp and GM Al Cleland, former senior vp and GM at Technicolor Digital Intermediates, TCS Hollywood and TCS New York; senior vp Marco Bario, former vp theatrical postproduction at TCS; vp technical operations Greg Ciaccio, former vp operations for post at TCS; and vp broadcast services Jennifer Tellefsen, former vp broadcast sales at TCS.

As for creative talent, Pankaj Bajpai joins the company from TCS Hollywood as senior colorist. Engineering talent has not yet been hired.

David Rosen is CEO of both PostWorks companies.

The new business opened with two suites in West Los Angeles, which include a digital color-timing suite based on Autodesk's Lustre and a conforming room based on Autodesk's Smoke as well as data storage.

PostWorks L.A. plans to open a larger facility in January in Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles, with digital color timing, comforming, scanning, recording and mastering services as well as the company's primary data-storage infrastructure. In the spring, it expects to have an expanded West Los Angeles operation in place. The plan is to connect both locations via high-speed dark fiber.

PostWorks encompasses post house PostWorks New York and bicoastal editorial rental business Orbit Digital.
