Burgenland votes for mayors

Eisenstadt. The Social Democrats (SPÖ) suffered minor losses in elections for mayors and town councils in the eastern province of Burgenland. Voting took place in 170 of the province’s 171communities. The SPÖ won 4.7 percent of the vote, down 1.26 percent since the last vote in 2002. The People’s Party (ÖVP) was also down slightly and got 43.1 percent in the election. The Freedom Party (FPÖ) got 2.94 percent. The Greens won 1.36 and the Alliance for the Future of Austria (BZÖ), in its first election in the province, got 1.19 percent of the votes in Burgenland.
