Brits get 'Kyle,' VOD for Russia, toon bows in India

Disney's ABC Family series "Kyle XY" has been licensed by the BBC for its second channel.
The accord was inked by Disney senior vp Jim Brehm and the BBC's chief buyer, George McGhee. The show, which recently ended its second season in August with a record viewing finale, already has been sold in almost all territories.
Among the more newfangled arrangements is a first-ever digital media agreement in Russia in which Disney will license a selection of movies to VOD service Sistema. Titles include "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," "Wild Hogs," "Cold Mountain" and "Kill Bill: Vol. 1." Subscribers will be able to pay to view movie titles for 24 hours from purchase.
Disney execs also unveiled a deal with basic cable channel Star Plus in India for animation titles that will be localized for that market. This is the first time that Disney's so-called Platinum titles will air on a general entertainment channel in India. The titles will be dubbed in Hindi using the voices of local Bollywood stars. Among the titles are "The Incredibles" and "Finding Nemo."
Disney also recently clinched an arrangement with Internet and mobile TV aggregator Kamera to distribute news video content from ABC News. The deal will enable Kamera to market ABC News' portfolio of content to mobile operators and online platforms worldwide, excluding North America.
No figures were available for any of the announced deals.
