  • Approved in 2003 after a proposal from Hiroshi Tanahashi, the G2 U-30 Climax took place across two tours. With "U-30" standing for "Under 30", this meant that any wrestler under the age of 30 in New Japan was allowed to enter this tournament, with a place in the prestigious G1 Climax at stake. Tanahashi himself won the tournament and was given a title for his victory, which gave upcoming wrestlers a belt to fight over.
