Young lion Tokimitsu Ishizawa, a former amateur star, was one of New Japan's brighest prospects. When he returned from his overseas learning excursion on the 5/3/97 Osaka Dome show, it was a different Ishizawa that appeared. Clad in a mask, Ishizawa was now known as Kendo Kashin. "Dangerous Shooter", as he was nicknamed, rose to prominence in the junior division, and on the "
HYPER BATTLE 1998" tour, made his presence felt in a major way. He had a series of singles matches, and not only did he win every match, but he defeated every established junior heavyweight in the company in a matter of two weeks. His biggest win was over Jushin Thunder Liger, who he would go on to challenge on the post-tour Tokyo Dome show, where he would fail to capture to the IWGP Heavyweight Title.
