  • Young lion Tokimitsu Ishizawa, a former amateur star, was one of New Japan's brighest prospects. When he returned from his overseas learning excursion on the 5/3/97 Osaka Dome show, it was a different Ishizawa that appeared. Clad in a mask, Ishizawa was now known as Kendo Kashin. "Dangerous Shooter", as he was nicknamed, rose to prominence in the junior division, and on the "HYPER BATTLE 1998" tour, made his presence felt in a major way. He had a series of singles matches, and not only did he win every match, but he defeated every established junior heavyweight in the company in a matter of two weeks. His biggest win was over Jushin Thunder Liger, who he would go on to challenge on the post-tour Tokyo Dome show, where he would fail to capture to the IWGP Heavyweight Title.

Kendo Kashin Single Match Series (3/6/98 to 3/22/98)

    1. (3/6/98 @ Niigata City Gymnasium) Kendo Kashin beat El Samurai (12:49) with a cross armbreaker.
    2. (3/9/98 @ Kyoto Prefectural Gymnasium) Kendo Kashin beat Koji Kanemoto (13:09) with a cross kneelock.
    3. (3/14/98 @ Miyagi Sports Center) Kendo Kashin beat Jushin Thunder Liger (10:12) by referee stop.
    4. (3/21/98 @ Amagasaki Memorial Park Gymnasium) Kendo Kashin beat Tatsuhito Takaiwa (9:52) with a triangle choke hold.
    5. (3/22/98 @ Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium) Kendo Kashin beat Shinjiro Otani (12:17) with a reverse cross armbreaker.
