Chris Morgan
SALES Christopher Morgan As Branch Manager of Theatrical Distribution at New Line Cinemas, Morgan sells first-run theatrical releases to exhibitors. "I'm the guy that calls theaters up and gets them to book our films," he explains. That includes negotiating dates, number of runs (the total number of screens a movie will be shown on), and sometimes rates. "Of course, it's easier to sell a film like 'Lord of the Rings' than smaller films," he explains. "But you still negotiate the number of runs, how many theaters to go into, and the number of prints you want working." When dealing with large exhibitors, many of these terms are set higher up in the corporate structure, but Morgan will still determine details such as making sure a film doesn't play in two competing theaters, like The Grove and The Beverly Center in Los Angeles, at the same time. "I like dealing with people, I like the product, and with me, because I'm new to it, and recently promoted, I'm learning new things every day. It's never tedious," says Morgan, who has been in sales for the past five years.
