Profile: Tetsuya Naito pursued soccer and baseball from his youth, having little to do with combat sports. After leaving school, he studied professional wrestling for five years at Animal Hamaguchi's famous dojo, representing it at a Takada Dojo submissions event in 2004, where he was named MVP. In November, 2005, he was shortlisted to participate in New Japan's open tryout at Korakuen Hall, and outshone the other young men, being the only one selected to enter the dojo. After six months of training, Naito finally debuted in June, 2006. Such was the speed of his progress, he was granted a trial series against respected junior veterans such as Liger, Kanemoto, and Minoru, little more than three months into his career. Known for his exceptional athletic ability, Naito is a young lion to keep an eye on in the coming years.
