Life on the road directly told by artists in the midst of touring.
Well. We are ten shows in. It's official… the tour has begun. Fourteen more to go. This is about the time in the tour when you really start to get the motion of it all. It won't be long until you wake up one morning on the ground of a hotel room and realize you are a few drives away from your own home.
We are currently on the East Coast... Connecticut to be exact. I love being here with openers This Providence. I don't think a single day has gone by where I haven't had an awesome time with them. They are truly my brothers, and it really makes touring a whole different story. We even have a blast curbing it outside random 7-11s.
I know that doesn't sound too different from something anyone would do in their own neighborhood, and maybe it isn't, but for some reason it has just been great. They are the type of band Daphne can just switch up members with on a long van ride and it goes seamlessly.
Tomorrow is Halloween! And... we get to go to Conan O'Brien. This pleases me. It was very difficult to get tickets and we probably shouldn't have been able to. I'm really excited to see what it is like, and what stuff they cut out. After the taping it will be official "roam around the biggest city in the states on one of the weirdest holidays" time. I don't know what will happen, but it has to be good, right?
I'm still in love with the colors of changing leaves on the drives. You just can't argue against that.
Apparently, two guys tried to break into This Providence's van while someone was still in it. During daylight. I don't think I'll be roaming about tonight.
I am really tired. That might make a poor excuse for a poorly written journal, but I'm trying. Fortunately, I am getting pretty good sleep this tour.
But I don't really know other bands our size that still only take out a merch guy. Between the four of us in the band, we tour manage, keep track of the merch orders, keep track of guestlists and interviews, fix and keep up all of our guitars and drums, drive, drive, drive, book hotels, figure out the best routing to get to a show, load our gear in and out, and decide what the best place is to eat. It's not the worst thing in the world, but I think it's fair to say it can be easy to get a little worn down. I'm not quite ready to go home yet, but my body is tired. Let us all hope for a second wind.
Our next show is going to be in New York City. It is a pretty important for us from a business perspective. We are currently free agents, having just finished our two-record contract with Outlook Music. It is exciting and New York is where most labels will come to watch us. It is a very long process after that show, but still something of significance.
My computer is about to die and there isn't any plug-ins in this room. There are, however, plenty of penises drawn on the wall. Not too many things are consistent on tour, but a sharpie-drawn penis on a green room wall – well -- that is worth putting money on.
