Second-half rally gives Picayune 8-4A title

Picayune dominated the second half in defeating previously unbeaten D'Iberville 30-21 in the duel for the Region 8-4A championship.

The Maroon Tide (8-1, 6-0) will now head into the state playoffs as the No. 1 seed while the Warriors (9-1, 5-1) are the No. 2 seed from the region.

Picayune's Albert Richard rushed for 123 yards and two TDs to spark the victory. Mark Seymour had 114 yards and two touchdowns for D'Iberville.

T.J. Lawrence rushed for three touchdowns as Ocean Springs remained unbeaten with a 33-14 victory at Gulfport. That set up a showdown for the Region 4-5A title next Friday at Lucedale after George County defeated Petal 27-17.

Backup quarterback Quayshaun Williams threw for one TD and ran for another as Region 7-4A champ Moss Point knocked off New Orleans Karr 31-13.

Sean Murphy threw TD strikes at 61 and 26 yards to Devron Spain as Biloxi won a key Region 4-5A game at Hancock 42-20.

Rakeem Sims rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns as Gautier defeated St. Martin 27-3. It was the 150th career coaching victory for Gator coach Don Nelson.

Bradley Jacobs eclipsed the 300-yard rushing mark as the Bearcats toppled Bay High 40-16.

Dylan Favre threw for 349 yards and 4 TDs as St. Stanislaus defeated Poplarville 34-27.

Lumberton edged St. Patrick 8-6 to gain the fourth playoff spot from Region 8-2A.
