A herring gull with a dislocated right wing has captured our attention for several days now. Grounded, unable to fly, the gull handles its physical disability with grace. The bird is not impeded from walking and demonstrates agility in moving rapidly across the sand. Foraging at water's edge, the gull takes care of itself nicely, despite a dangling wing. Today it walks on a nearby parking lot, finding scraps of discarded food there.
Here was an advertisement in The Biloxi Herald with a new twist: "Buy Wyeth's fading hair remedy and if that doesn't work - well, here's a formula you can prepare yourself that indeed will work." The ad read, "The secret method of darkening gray hair is applying sage tea and sulphur." Your hair, said the ad, "is your charm. It either makes or mars the face... it turns gray, dry, wispy and scraggly. But with a few applications of sage and sulphur one's appearance is enhanced one hundred fold." But...
