About 1.7 million visitors on five days. That is the official result, with which the Organizing Committee “Sail Bremerhaven 2005” concluded the international festival of windjammers yesterday (Monday). “We are really enthusiastic about the result and the harbour days. Despite the weather not always being ideal “Sail Bremerhaven 2005” has gone far beyond our expectations” summarized Hennig Goes, Chairman of the Organization Committee.

Even the poor weather at the final parade on Sunday had not been able to influence this result. Especially Bremerhaven’s new infrastructure at “Alter Hafen” and “Neuer Hafen” with its new quays, places, bridges, and a new sluice had come through its baptism of fire brilliantly” Goes said approvingly and emphasized that this “Sail” has above all distinctly pointed the way to Bremerhaven’s future role and importance at the German coast.

Goes confirmed: “The result of this large maritime event is based on pure teamwork at the best quality” and refers hereby to the “friendly and cooperative togetherness” in the Organization Committee, which made the impressing success of “Sail Bremerhaven 2005” possible. Everybody from the office of the harbour captain, the police and the navy to the harbour police, the customs authorities, the Marine Board, THW, DLRG, offices of the Magistrate of the City of Bremerhaven, public authorities, enterprises and institutions was aware at any time that they all had one common goal in mind. An impressive success for Bremerhaven. “This has been achieved in a more than convincing  way”, Goes expressed thanks in the name of the BIS mbH as the organizer of the ”Sail 2005”.

Until the Monday evening most of the sailing vessels left Bremerhaven. In their luggage they had an invitation to “Sail Bremerhaven 2010”, which has been contemplated for July 28 to August 1, 2010. In between there shall be, as desired by an increasing number of visitors, an interlude at the end of July 2008 – a windjammer meeting, mixed with other attractive ships. “ which  shall be something like a “Lütte Sail (“Mini Sail”)” serving as an appetizer for 2010” Goes announced.

Together with Mr. Artur Beneken, head of the Bremerhaven town councillors, Goes changed the huge welcome letters for “Sail Bremerhaven 2005” to 2010 at lunch time. Before that Mr. Artur Beneken had given a brief résumé in the name of the City of Bremerhaven  and had thanked in its name the more than 1300 helpers, who had made it possible that “Sail Bremerhaven 2005” had been met with such an excellence response far beyond the national borders. In his appreciation he included especially the considerable and very positive news coverage in the media and confirmed that “Sail Bremerhaven 2005” had been an impressive performance with many facets and without any organizational problems. He was also impressed by the fact that the police and the fire department had not had much to do  and that there had been no incidents, which had cast a shadow over the event.
