A weekend full of concerts

What's the haps, folks.

This week, the Mississippi Coast Coliseum plays host to several big ticket shows, one of which is the topic of a story, by Justin Hooks, on page 5. For info on the other two, just keep reading. Then, have a nice weekend.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra

A perineal holiday favorite of many, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra steamrolls into the Mississippi Coast Coliseum at 8 p.m. tonight. Since its inaugural 1999 tour TSO has been quite the successful concert act, consistently rating in the Top 10 for both gross revenues and audience attendance, according to organizers.

Reports a TSO press release: "In that time, TSO's annual tours have become a must-see-tradition for rock-centric revelers, attracting a uniquely all-ages audience captivated by their cross-genre blending of metal and progressive rock, classical themes and great storytelling, with unequalled staging and pyrotechnics. TSO's 2006 Winter Tour was its most successful to date, playing to over 1,000,000 fans, generating revenues in excess of $40 million and earning the most attendance on Billboard's Top 25 Tours chart."

The show is one of more than 130 TSO will be performing as part of its coast-to-coast tour. Admission is $33 and $43 (plus tax and service fee), and tickets are available at the Coliseum box office, by phone at 1-800-488-5252 or (228) 385-2600, at ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster outlet.

CMT on Tour

CMT on Tour is hosting a concert 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Coliseum, featuring Sugarland, Little Big Town and Jake Owens.

Sugarland is a multi-platinum selling duo (Atlanta singer/songwriters Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush) that broke on to the scene in 2004 with their album "Twice The Speed Of Life," which featured the hit songs "Baby Girl" and "Something More." Their more recent album, "Enjoy the Ride," has sold more than a million albums and produced two No. 1 hits ("Want To" and "Settlin'

"). The Grammy-nominated Sugarland won an American Music Award for "Breakthrough Favorite New Artist" and an ACM award for "New Duo/Group of the Year," among other accolades. (Jennifer Nettles also won a 2007 Grammy for a collaboration with rock group Bon Jovi.)

Sugarland, which recently toured with Kenny Chesney, has performed on ABC's "Good Morning America," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," at the Grammy's, the CMA's and on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" special.

Little Big Town, meanwhile, is the band behind the platinum debut album, "The Road To Here." The group was named ACM's Top New Vocal Group this year, and garnered two Grammy nominations. In the past, Little Big Town has toured with acts including Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride and John Mellencamp.
