Crippen caught by the press

After murdering his wife, Dr Hawley Harvey Crippen and lover Ethel Le Neve boarded the Montrose bound for Canada. The ship’s captain recognised the pair from photographs and descriptions published in The Continental Daily Mail.

On 22 July 1910, he sent the first ever wireless telegraph that resulted in the capture of a criminal. The News of the World devotes the entire front page to the story, using a series of photographs and maps to illustrate the narrative-style text.
