Prevention & Early Intervention

WE WILL STRENGTHEN OUR CAPACITY TO REDUCE THE CAUSES THAT PROMPT CHILDREN TO RUN AWAY FROM HOME AND TAKE TO THE STREETS AND TO REACH THOSE CHILDREN WHO DO RUN AWAY AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE.

To do this we:

  • Work with our members and other major international children's organisations to identify the causes of children taking to the streets and the size of the problem, and lobby governments on the adoption of policies which will prevent further growth
  • Assist our members' work with children at risk of running away or being forced from home and spending 100% of their time on the street
  • Encourage members to reunite street children with their families and local communities, where this is practicable and in the interests of the child, and evaluate the effects
  • Assist our members to provide early outreach and contact services to potential and actual street children, including child phone help lines and other early intervention techniques
  • Help key decision makers to address the needs of second and third generations of children being born and raised on the streets
  • Reach out to organisations that work with runaways and other children and youth on the streets in the UK so that we can share our experiences and learn from each other
  • Encourage and support our members to work collaboratively with governments to develop a more professional approach to prevention.
