  • Hacker has multiple common meanings as relates to computing, unified only in that it refers to someone who is an avid computer enthusiast.
    • Hacker definition controversy
    • Hacker (computer security), a hacker involved in security mechanisms of computers and networks
      • Script kiddie, a teenage hacker breaking into systems to brag to his friends, using ready-made programs.
      • Black hat hacker, a hacker who commits criminal intrusions into technological systems for some real or perceived gain
      • White hat hacker, those who attempt to break into systems or networks in order to help the owners of the system by making them aware of security flaws, etc. (Often work in, or start businesses based on security and security flaws.)
      • Grey hat hacker, a hybrid between white and black hat hackers
    • Hacker (academia), a hacker from the academic hacker community, nowadays the Free Software and Open Source movement
    • Hacker (hobbyist), a hacker from the home computer hobbyist movement originating at the Homebrew Computer Club

  • Hacker (folklore), a mythological race in Scandinavian folklore
  • Reality hacker, similar to a computer hacker, but hacks the "real world"
  • Wetware hacker
