International Fair of Eye Optics, Optometry and Ophthalmology OPTA 2008 will be held on February 22 - 24, 2008.
The last weekend in February 2008 at the Brno exhibition centre will again be held in token of eye optics. The most important branch presentation in Central and Eastern Europe - the 14th International Fair of Eye Optics, Optometry and Ophthalmology OPTA will be staged.
OPTA is the most important specialised presentation of eye optics and ophthalmology in the Central and Eastern European region. OPTA is co-organised by the Association of Czech Opticians and Optometrists. During the twelve years when this trade fair has been organised at the Brno Exhibition Centre, both the exhibition area and the number of exhibitors are four times bigger. The OPTA trade fair is not just a presentation of the top fashion spectacle frames, glasses and contact lenses, or technology and equipment, but serves also as a centre of education, offering numerous specialised lectures and seminars, including e.g. the 2nd International Congress OPTA 2006 for Optics and Optometry Educators and Professionals from the New and Future EU Member Countries.

he last fair set the oncoming fair an exceedingly high target. At a year-on-year level all the parameters increased; 242 exhibiting firms (by 20 more than at OPTA 2006) from 24 countries (18 in 2006) attended the fair; 4 860 m2 of rented out exhibition space was by 500 m2 more than at the previous fair. Also the number of visitors increased, i.e. 6584 from 32 countries compared with 5728 from 26 countries at the fair in 2006. This increase was particularly due to the great interest of visitors from abroad; the number of foreign visitors was 1218, i.e. 18.5 % out of the overall number. It is the so far highest proportion of foreign visitors to come to any fair held at the exhibition centre in the course of the year! The year before 732 visitors from abroad visited the fair (12.8 % of the overall number).
Czech Market:
In Czech Republic is 1.400 eye doctors, 1.060 optics shops, about 140 suppliers of spectacle frames, 14 suppliers of glass lenses, 6 suppliers of contact lenses. Number of glass lenses sold in year 2005 is 3,2 mil. pcs. Years´Expenses of Czechs for glass frames and contact lenses is almost 4 mld. CZK.
