Travel Auction
Tourism Victoria is a not-for-profit membership organization that relies on the annual
Travel Auction as our only fundraising activity. The Travel Auction is held in the fall of each year and generates approximately $80,000 for Tourism Victoria’s operating budget. We rely on the generosity of our members, our donors and the attendees of the event for its success.

Past donors and potential donors are contacted throughout the year. In return for donations, we offer advertising opportunities in the auction catalogue, including a detailed write-up of the donation, an index listing and a display advertisement, if the value of the donation is over $1,000. In addition, if the donation is featured in the live portion of the auction, our guests at the event view slides promoting the donation provided by the donors.

If you would like your product featured in our Travel Auction Catalogue, or you would like to attend this exciting annual event, please contact Kelly Both, Assistant Manager of Member Services at (250) 414-6986 or click here to email Kelly Both

Annual General Meeting
In late March annually, Tourism Victoria holds its annual general meeting. This meeting is required by Tourism Victoria’s constitution and is the opportunity for the general membership to be updated on the activities of the society for the previous year. The annual general meeting includes:

  • President’s report
  • Chief Executive Officer's report
  • Any special resolutions put forward by the membership
  • A financial report
  • The appointment of our auditor for the current year
  • Distribution of the Annual Report
  • Handing out annual Miracle and Environmental awards

Annual Golf Tournament
Tourism Victoria hosts a golf tournament annually, usually in the month of June. It is a great opportunity to network with other members or for members to bring their business clients and introduce them to the tourism industry. The event features 18 holes of fun golf, Texas-scramble fashion, and dinner afterward, when prizes are awarded.

Flower Count
During the last week of February, residents of Victoria discover a city that truly becomes "full of life" as flowers bloom in front gardens, back yards and throughout the city parks. Victoria’s annual Flower Count marks the end of winter and the start of an early spring; while residents in most Canadian cities are still under snow in February, Victorians are gardening. The enthusiasm for this tongue-in-cheek promotion is evident in the number of flowers counted - over 5.3 billion blossoms last year - and visitors to Victoria are encouraged to join in the fun.

How does it work?
For one week, citizens of Greater Victoria count all the blossoms they can find. The results are reported to volunteers at Flower Count Headquarters by telephone or by online submission. As the numbers come in, announcements are sent to local media to inform everyone of the growing count.

How many blooms?
In 1976, over 130 million blooms were counted. By 1996, with a growing population and more community participation, that figure rose to over 4 billion (4,220,401,563). 2002 broke all records with an amazing 8.5 billion blooms!
