Recent collaborations: Brisbane · Harold Holt · 1967 in Australia · Media Watch · Australia Day

The Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight (ACOTF) is an ongoing collaborative effort to raise the quality of a selected article of Australian significance. The aim of this initiative is to fill gaps in coverage of the Australia and Australia-related topics on Wikipedia by developing individual articles one-by-one through extensive co-operation.

During the collaboration or soon after, the article will hopefully attain or near featured standard. The collaboration also serves to give users a focus and something to be proud of.

[edit] Procedure

Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight

Anyone who is a registered user prepared to devote time to collaborate on an article, not just Australians, can nominate an article and vote for articles already nominated.

The article is selected using approval voting. Every second Sunday, the votes are tallied, and the winner will be promoted for two weeks to potential contributors. The next winner will be selected on Sunday, 10 February, 2008, 20:00 (AEST)

Previous selected articles that have gone on to become featured articles can be found at /Features. All previous selected articles can be found at /History. Failed nominations can be found at /Removed.

Nominations

New nominations can be made at any time and should be added at the end of this page. Please use the template in the comment.

If the page you are nominating already exists, please add {{WP Australia | collaboration-candidate=yes |...}} to the top of its talk page.

Considerations for nominations
Voting

Please vote for as many of the following candidates as you like. Please add only support votes. Opposing votes will not affect the result, as the winner is simply the one with the most support votes (see Approval voting).

Only registered users should vote. Any Wikipedian can vote on this page. You do not have to be an Australian.

To enter your votes, simply edit the appropriate sections by just inserting a new line with "# ~~~~". This will add your username and a time stamp in a new numbered list item.

Potential voters should consider when voting whether they are prepared to contribute to that article if it is selected. The ACOTF can not be effective if people vote purely in the hopes that someone else will improve an article. The purpose is to draw together a group of interested people for a time.

Tie-breakers

In case of a tie, the tied candidate that was nominated first will be selected.

Article selection

If the article is selected as the ACOTF, enter the article's complete title at Template:Collab-australian. The template {{Current Australian COTF}} should then be placed at the top of the selected article.

When the article is no longer ACOTF, please add the following template to the talk page: {{WP Australia |past-acotf=dates}}

Pruning

Nominations will be moved to /Removed if they do not attract attention. An item will be allowed to remain up for voting two weeks per two votes it receives.

NOTE: If the turnover of collaborations slows down as it did in September/October 2006, the expiry dates should be taken with a pinch of salt for a while and allowed to relax to ensure popular choices are not pruned merely due to nobody actually selecting a new collaboration topic.

Items may also be removed if they are inappropriate for nomination (see Considerations... above)

Comments:

  • Can't believe we don't have an article on this firm! Famous ad agency. One famous campaign was the Shrimp on the barbie which changed Australian tourism. Other campaings according to an obituary of one of the founders were You oughta be congratulated (Meadow Lea margerine) and Come On Aussie, Come On for promoting Kerry Packer's pyjama cricket plus they applied Peter Allen's I Still Call Australia Home to Qantas ads in a campaign that continues to run. The article John Singleton (Australian entrepreneur) doesn't mention the agency :-( and really needs a bit of a clean-up as it claims (contrary to the obituary's claims) that Singelton is responsible for the Qantas ad. Also the campaings: Anyhow have a Winfield and I feel like a Tooheys. At least five of their ads were among the the 50 best Australian advertisements of all time--Matilda talk 03:21, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

  • The Sydney water crisis of 1998. Involves some very complex issues about the handling of the situation issues which require expansion. Would be great so see this article written up in depth, it may pose a challenge.

[edit] Afghan (Australia)

Comments:

  • There has been an excellent exhibition (created mainly) by South Australians - at the National Library of Australia - the article could be well expanded from the material alone - the camelleers/afghans did serious contributions for Australian exploration and development in the 1800's and early 1900's - and hardly have ever hit the conventional history books - they deserve a much better article than there is at present SatuSuro 09:11, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

  • This article needs a lot of work with referencing and POV, and shouldn't be too difficult as it must be one of the most documented cases in recent Australian history. --Canley (talk) 05:43, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sexpo

Comments:

  • Ok don't all look at me like that. It does say here to only nominate articles that need serious work and this certainly fits the bill. The next Sexpo is coming up in Brisvegas from Feb 28 to Mar 2. There's going to be a "Gaggle of International porn stars!" This page could be getting viewed a bit in the next few days and even make the news pages here so might make sense to collaborate on this one? Sting au Buzz Me...'
