Hi. Huilliche is not a separate language. It is pair of southernmost dialects of Mapudungun speaked by Huilliche people (southern Mapuches). Differences are in grammar and lexicon, however, veliche is dead and che sungun is very affected by Spanish: only a few hundreds of people can speak it. A remarkable thing is replace mew /mew/ (locative) by mo [mo], [mu] and we /we/ (place) by o /o/. Bye. --Lin linao 05:03, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] What is supposed to be the future of this template?
I was wondering what is the idea with this extremely incomplete template - it lacks about 95% of the languages of south america (and the ones it does have are mostly non-indigenous languages or dialects). If we are to make it a complete template it will include several hundred languages most of which have no articles yet - but if we don't make it a complete list it will be severely misleading - making it look like most languages of south america are of european origin. For an idea about just how many languages a complete list of south american languages would hav to include you can look at list which only lists the endangered languags of south america. I think it would probably bee best to delete the template and just make a supercategory to hold all the categories of languages of southamerican countries. What do you people think we should do? If we decide to make a template for southamerican languages we will also have to make them for languages of central america, languagees of mesoamerica and languages of northamerica. - The problem is that it is imporobablee that it will reach any leevel of completeness within the next yeears of wikipedias life - there are anywhere in between 500 and 1500 southamerican languages that haven't any articles yet.Maunus 23:11, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

- I agree with the comments of Maunus and others above. Possibly the only practicable way such a similar template could work would be to restrict its focus. For eg, it could be made as a nav template for links to Languages of X Sth American country articles, however in that case a separate template would not be needed as this purpose could be accomplished by using the existing functionality of the {{South America in topic}} template.--cjllw | TALK 02:02, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

In any event it seems this template has just been moved to {{Official Languages of South America}}, so maybe the template's creator Qrc2006 has another purpose in mind. - I see there is now also a {{Languages of South America with more than 1,000 speakers}} template created. Before too many more of these are worked on, it might be best to consider what kinds of navigational templates in general could be useful, and which kinds would be better off as a category or a "List of..." article. Which is not to downplay the efforts Qrc2006 is putting in to generate these, but to say it might be more economical in the long run to consider just what these templates are intended to accomplish, and whether there may be alternative ways to do this...--cjllw | TALK 08:08, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Political constitution of Peru [1] warrants to all peruvian citizens and foreigners right to use their own language before authorities. In Art. 48ª explains:
- Son idiomas oficiales el castellano y, en las zonas donde predominen, también lo son el quechua, el aimara y las demás lenguas aborígenes, según la ley. (Oficcial languages are Spanish and, in areas where they dominate, quechua, aimara and the rest of the aboriginal languages also, according to the law).
That paragraph is not the same that "All languages are considered official languages in Perú". Bye. --Lin linao 05:40, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

If a language is official in just a province or state of a county should it be included? what if the language allready appears on the template AND its official in a state of a country where its not official at the national level? i ask because i had added Argentina to Guarani since its official in corrientes province neighboring paraguay where its official nationwide. any thoughts? i think we should include languages official at the state level. like on the sidebar templates of countries. like the us article says English, de facto, but also mentions spanish since its official in puerto rico and new mexico, and french in louisiana, and chamorro in guam, and samoan in american samoa.
