Waste Water Treatment Plants

The treatment of wastewater generated from various facilities ensures that ground and surface water is safe for the environment and the public's health. In this endeavor, the Authority has operated wastewater treatment facilities for over 30 years to ensure the proper treatment of wastewater discharges from Thruway Travel Plazas, maintenance and toll facilities. Many of the wastewater treatment plants were updated in the 1990s during the reconstruction of the Travel Plazas. Proposals to improve the plants are continually being evaluated and implemented where necessary. The employees who operate and maintain the Authority’s water supply and wastewater treatment and disposal infrastructure provide excellent, behind-the-scenes service to New York State residents and the traveling public.
