Alan Ball will receive the Groundbreaking Filmmaker of 2008 award at the ShoWest exhibitor confab, which runs March 10-13 in Las Vegas. He'll be feted during the opening luncheon celebrating specialty and independent film.
Warner Independent Pictures opens Ball's feature directorial debut, "Towelhead," in select theaters in August.
Ball penned the adapted screenplay for "Towelhead" from the novel of the same name by Alicia Erian.Most recently, Ball directed HBO pilot "True Blood," which he adapted from Charlaine Harris' tome "Dead Until Dark."
