Facts on Pacts 2003 - Winter

After several years of slashing, studios seem to have found pact levels that work. The headcount remains virtually unchanged from six months ago.

However, many new deals are firstlook lite, offering limited overhead. Other deals are designed to piggyback on current productions, thereby laying off costs.

Among the missing in action are "The X-Files" creator Chris Carter, Bob Cooper’s Landscape, Spike Lee and Jane Campion.

Although Revolution Studios generally disdains first-looks, it hired Team Todd's Jennifer and Suzanne Todd as inhouse producers and brought "Chicago" producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan of Storyline into the fold for two pictures.

Sony has the most deals, with 36; Universal added the most, with seven; and New Line slashed the most, dropping four.
