HOLLYWOOD The benefit preem for "Leatherheads" at Grauman's Chinese on March 31 had both small and large premiere elements.

It was small in that Hollywood Boulevard was not blocked off, so when director-star George Clooney crossed the street to greet fans, he had to navigate six lanes of moving traffic. But the preem was large in that the after-party was held in Hollywood & Highland's ballroom, which had been fully decorated in '20s period style and equipped with a eight-piece swing band.

The AFI Associates event raised more than $250,000 for the institute.

At the party, U production prexy Donna Langley described the pic as "un-cynical entertainment." Added producer Casey Silver, the film "has movie stars, football, romance and chemistry -- that's a strong base for popular entertainment."
