Norah Jones wasn't quite sure why Wong Kar Wai chose her to star in his debut English-language feature, "My Blueberry Nights."

At the pic's Gotham preem at the Tribeca Grand screening room on Wednesday, the songstress admitted she was flattered but confused when Wong offered her the part.

"I wasn't really sure what he wanted from me because there was no information about the role, and I have always been a little bit shy performing, so I thought it was kind of a funny choice, but I trusted that he knew what he was doing," Jones said.

Wong said he "just knew" the songstress was ready for her closeup.

"Two years ago we had a chance to meet in New York, and I realized that she had never acted before, and I said, 'Well, I can sense that you can act. Why don't we just make a film together?' Her answer was 'Why not?' "
