Community Health Division
Collaboration is the hallmark of the Community
Health Division. Preventive services are offered by the following
Community Health Division programs:
Alcohol Diversion Program
Substance abuse education, treatment, and referral for teens, young adults and families. Strong focus on family dynamics,
decision making and communication.
GENESIS (Teen Pregnancy and
Parenting)
Promotes healthy parenting practices within Boulder County's teen parent families.
Home-based services help pregnant and parenting teens build skills to
support healthy outcomes for the fetus/child and parent.
Health Outreach & Advocacy Program (HOAP)
The goal of the Health Outreach & Advocacy Program (HOAP) is to
increase healthy behavior within identified at-risk populations in Boulder
County. HOAP staff will provide training on relevant public health topics
to service providers, address issues regarding local access to health
care, and utilize social marketing campaigns to impact positive health
behavior changes. In 2004, the HOAP is
focusing on Boulder County's questioning, intersex, transgender, bisexual,
lesbian, and gay population.
Prevention/Intervention
Program
Places counselors in middle schools and high
schools in both Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts to address substance abuse; depression/suicide; family
and peer conflict; runaway and homelessness; grief and loss; interpersonal
relationships; and school issues such as expulsion, dropout, intimidation,
and harassment.
Tobacco Education and Prevention
Program (TEPP)
Works through community coalitions
to reduce tobacco use by youth and adults in an effort to create a
healthy, smoke-free environment for all residents of Boulder County.
Unintended Pregnancy
Prevention Program (UIPP)
Helps to create awareness of unintended pregnancy and provides training
and consultation on effective pregnancy prevention. The program also
works with health care providers and community groups to assure that
effective birth control methods are widely available and accessible.
The programs within the Community Health Division all rely heavily on community
involvement and are built on partnerships with schools, health care
agencies, law enforcement, and local nonprofit organizations.
Through education, counseling, advocacy, and community coalition
development, the Community Health Division promotes changes at both
the individual and community level.
