Birding in Victoria and Vancouver Island

birding
Witness the amazing sight of more than 250 eagles feasting on spawning salmon. Experience the phenomenal wingspan of a great blue heron. Hear the unique call of the trumpeter swan or view one of North Americas last sky lark populations.
As the popularity of birding rises, birders and nature enthusiasts are discovering Victoria and Vancouver Island as an ideal bird-watching location.

Victoria's mild climate allows for a multitude of outdoor activities year-round, including birding. Birders can observe the large variety and number of birds that migrate through Victoria. The best months for birding are the spring and fall migrations, though most species can be found here all year long.

Over 380 different species of birds have been recorded in the southern Vancouver Island region with average annual totals, in Victoria, of over 240 species. Visiting birders are likely to record up to 150 species in a three-week period.

Expert guides are available to take visitors to migration routes, nests and gathering places. Habitat diversity includes high alpine to tidal mud flats, dense old growth rainforest to open ocean and everything in between. The variety of habitat offers an exciting birding tour for any experienced or first-time bird watcher.
