THE HISTORY OF THE SUPERHOST FAMILY

The Beginning…

SuperHost was developed by Tourism British Columbia in 1985 to improve the quality of service in tourism business throughout the province, in preparation for the World Exposition in Vancouver in 1986.

Developed specifically for this event, the workshops were so successful that SuperHost was later offered by representatives of the program throughout the province, and to date, nearly 400,000 British Columbians have completed one of the SuperHost workshops.

SuperHost has grown from one initial program in 1985, to a SuperHost product family that now includes five training programs developed to continue in the tradition of SuperHost - interactive, practical, motivational and fun.

International Customers

Tourism British Columbia has also licensed SuperHost to international customers. Tourism BC has assisted each of its international customers to customize SuperHost to fit their unique cultural and demographic characteristics. You can now find SuperHosts across Canada and around the world. Here are just some of the countries that use SuperHost:

  • Australia (AussieHost)
  • New Zealand (KiwiHost)
  • England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (Welcome Host)
  • Singapore (SuperHost Singapore), Hong Kong (Hong Kong WonderHost), Thailand (SawasdeeHost), Malaysia (MalaysiaHost) and the Philippines (MabuhayHost)

Customization for Corporate Customers

In addition to international customers, Tourism BC has customized SuperHost for a variety of Corporate Customers including; BC Ferry Corporation, Canada Customs Pacific Region (Traveller Service Program) and the taxi industry (TaxiHost).
