I can't read the Word of the Day

The Word of the Day is an HTML-only service. If the text of the Word of the Day is obscured by HTML markup, your e-mail software is probably not configured to display HTML. The way to change this configuration depends on the software you are using.

If your e-mail software cannot display HTML, you may prefer to visit the Word of the Day on this web site instead.

I've subscribed but don't receive the Word of the Day

Some e-mail providers automatically mark messages as junk if the "To:" address in the message is not the same as the address on the e-mail account. This is intended to block spam, but can also affect the Word of the Day mailing list.

You may be able to change this setting so that the Word of the Day mailing list address is allowed - check with your e-mail provider.

The address to allow will depend on the region to which you subscribed: either oedwotd-amer-l@webber.uk.oup.com (for North and South America) or oedwotd-l@webber.uk.oup.com (for the rest of the world).

I've tried to sign up for the Word of the Day, but received a message from L-Soft list server at OUP telling me that I need to supply my full name

The list server requires a name to go with each e-mail address on the list. E-mail software usually supplies this in the message header.

If the name is missing, you will receive a message asking you to supply a name. Simply reply to this with a message consisting of a line in this form:

subscribe oedwotd-amer-l Your Name

Or if you wish to subscribe anonymously, use ‘Anonymous’ instead of your name. For example:

subscribe oedwotd-amer-l Anonymous
